Chapter 53
(Zion’s POV)
Ragnar stilled, seeing his mate for the first time.
She stood in the middle of the moonlit courtyard, red eyes glowing like twin embers. She was terrifying… and beautiful.
Ragnar let out a long, low howl that echoed through the air. He could feel her power ripple like wildfire
“She’s perfect,” Ragnar whispered in our bond.
But something was off.
She wasn’t looking at us like she recognized us. There was no excitement either… It seemed like she was being moved by a force that didn’t belong to her. Yet Ragnar, in his stubborn joy, edged closer.
He didn’t see the danger, until she flew. Her body soared into the night, climbing higher, eclipsing the moon for a breathless moment before she came crashing down; faster than a meteor…
The impact shook the palace grounds.
The ground cracked beneath her feet… rocks, stones shattered, and dust flew.
The guests screamed. Some ran, while others ducked behind pillars and trees. The warriors and guards hesitated before forming partial lines. The only ones who didn’t tremble were my father, the Queen, Zelda… and Lucien, who had just emerged from a side corridor with one of Lily’s friends. Aria
I caught a flash of Lucien’s face; his lips were swollen and his hair ruffled. But I had no time to think of that now, because Lily’s beast had moved fast.
Like lightning, she charged at the elders. I saw Principal Thamior widen his eyes too late. Her claws gripped his neck, lifting him like he weighed nothing.
“Stop!” someone cried.
We didn’t wait for a second cry.
Ragnar lunged forward with a powerful burst, his fur bristling and he tackled her, sending them tumbling across the stones.
But this… wasn’t just a struggle.
It was war.
She spun fast, landing atop him, her claws tearing into his chest. Ragnar growled, pained but also thrilled. He loved that his mate was challenging him… She was strong, fierce and relentless.
Her moves were untrained but hard enough to surprise him. She struck him again and again, drawing blood.
Ragnar retaliated, swiping her off with a powerful hit. She skidded across the courtyard, but before he could catch his breath, she was back on him. They rolled. She pounced on him, claws sinking into his chest.

Chapter 53
Ragnar clawed at her side, rolling them over. They snarled, bit, snapped, wrestled like two storms clashing in the same sky. She was smaller, yes. But her strength came from something ancient and dark.
It was a worthy match, and Ragnar loved her all the more for it.
But then it happened.
Just as she had him pinned again, one of the royal guards suddenly rushed forward and threw a sharp silver–tipped spear. It struck her back, and sliced through flesh.
Her scream echoed through the palace.
Lily disappeared off him in a cloud of dark smoke, and appeared behind the guard in the blink of an eye. Her claws gleamed as they sank into his chest.
And then… she pulled his heart out.
The onlookers screamed louder. The elders stumbled back, tripping over their robes as they fled. Maids shrieked and ran away. Panic surged through the air like wildfire… and one by one, all the guards on seeing one of their fellows fall dead on the ground, ripped their uniforms and shifted into raging beasts.
I spotted my father.
His face was grim. He looked at my mother and gave her that silent, familiar look- the one that meant “It’s time.” She nodded, and rushed to where the horrified Zelda was and scooped her into her arms. They vanished into the racing crowd.
The King removed his cape, and dread filled my loins. I knew what that meant. He was going to lead the charge to fight her… To kill, or be killed. She was a threat to his kingdom.
He would not hold back, and neither would Lily.
No, I couldn’t let that happen. I couldn’t lose any of them.
Fear rose within Ragnar and I. I wasn’t about to choose… None of them can fall today. Not soon, not on Zelda’s birthday, not
now.
Lily’s beast hissed at the approaching guards, crouching low like a serpent about to strike.
They circled her slowly, trying to predict her next move. Her muscles tensed, her claws flexed, and for a heartbeat, I saw it again that strange flicker in her eyes.
With a burst of speed, we raced towards her and lifted her off the ground…
