On the way back, Quintin stared out the
window. As they approached the bridge, his
hands clenched.
When he saw the damaged guardrail and
police tape, his eyes widened, and he
trembled.
“Stop the car.
“Mr. Qin, we can’t stop here.”
But Quintin ignored him, grabbing the
steering wheel from Emily.
く
“I said stop the car, do you hear me?”
By the time they arrived at the river, the
police were removing the barriers.
His lips trembled as he stared at the familiar
figure of the Lieutenant.
“Lieutenant, Sarah… she…”
“She crashed into the guardrail on her way to
the cemetery yesterday and fell into the
river.”
“The security footage shows her condition was very bad when she got into the car. She was dizzy. Her last call was from you. Did you
notice anything unusual?”
Quintin’s defenses crumbled. His eyes were empty and despairing.
“How could this happen? I really killed her.”
“Sarah, come back. I didn’t want you to die.
<
Come back.”
He stumbled towards the bridge, but an
officer pulled him back.
“What are you saying? What does Sarah’s
death have to do with you?”
Quintin collapsed, his lips trembling, his face
filled with pain and self–blame.
“I called her to the cemetery.”
“I… I killed her…”
The officer glared at him angrily.
If their job allowed it, they wouldn’t let
Quintin off.
But they didn’t notice the triumphant, yet
regretful look on Jake’s face.
Three days later, the police recovered a swollen body from the river.
Quintin held a grand funeral for me. He
<
fainted several times from crying, appearing
deeply heartbroken.
“If you want to change your mind, I can tell
them I was wrong. Once you’re undercover,
it’s a life–or–death situation.”
“Besides, he still seems to love you.”
The Lieutenant tried to persuade me.
But after attending my own funeral, I felt
neither relief nor sadness.
Just emptiness.
When I was alive, he wished I was dead; now
that I’m dead, he acts heartbroken to win
everyone over.
But I wouldn’t turn back.
I turned away, gently refusing.
“No, his pain is temporary. He’ll be better off
without me.”
<
I took the discharge papers and signed my
new name.
From then on, Sarah truly disappeared from
the world.
On the day I left the hospital, I looked at my
changed face in the mirror and silently spoke
towards the cemetery.
“Sis, don’t worry, this time I’ll catch them!”
After helping a low–level thug evade the
police, I successfully infiltrated the gang. “Xiaoxu, haven’t you always wanted to meet
the big boss and make big money? Your
chance is here.”
I pretended to be surprised.
“Really? Wang, you’re amazing! You’re even
acquainted with the big boss.”
Wang looked shifty, scratching his head, and
<
scolded.
“What are you talking about? I’m just letting you meet him, don’t say anything stupid.” “You don’t trust me? I promise I’ll be good.”
After half a year in that desolate mountain, I
finally had a chance to complete my mission. As I pondered the identity of the mastermind, a familiar figure appeared.
“What are you spacing out for? Didn’t you
say you wanted to get rich? Jake’s here, say hello.”
I quickly lowered my head, pretending to be calm.
“Hello, Brother Jake.”
Who would have thought that the country’s most mysterious criminal was so young? No wonder my sister failed.
<
Jake stopped beside me, pausing. Even with a
new face, I was inevitably nervous, my palms
sweating.
“Look up.”
