“I don’t need to go back. Easton and I were never a good match. Forcing it would only make us both miserable,” Ellis thought for a moment.
“Glad you finally figured that out. Scott’s gaze shifted to Carly. “Tll take care of Easton.”
Hearing Scott say that, Ellis felt like a burden had been taken off her shoulders. Some things didn’t need to be said out loud–Scott had never been happy with her being Easton’s wife. Now that she was stepping aside, he’d make sure everything was handled.
“Dad, before you deal with Easton, can you give me some money?” Carly hated being broke. If she didn’t have money, she had no reason to go out and would just end up stuck in the manor, feeling useless.
“You’re too old to still be this useless.”
Scott gave her a look of disappointment before heading back to the lawn to continue his golf game.
The massive living room was now empty except for Ellis and Carly.
After studying Ellis for a moment, as if seeing her struggle, Carly said, “I don’t have money for you. You might as well just stay at the manor.”
That was exactly what Ellis had in mind. She nodded quickly.
“I’m going to keep Dad company. Figure things out yourself.” Carly had no patience to wait until Scott handled Easton before she had money to spend. She decided to try her luck squeezing some cash out of him now.
Watching Carly walk away, Ellis remembered she hadn’t had lunch. Rubbing her empty stomach, she followed her memory of the place and headed to the kitchen to find something to eat.
Meanwhile, Carly, now acting as Scott’s caddy, didn’t bring up money right away. Instead, she made small talk with him between swings.
Scott clearly still had doubts about Ellis’s divorce from Easton. He suspected she wasn’t serious about going through with it.
“If Ellis, doesn’t want to divorce, I’ll drag her to the Civil Affairs Department myself.” Carly wasn’t about to let that happen. If she could go back three years, she never would’ve let Ellis marry Easton in the first place. “That scumbag never planned on treating her right.”
She saw it clearly now–Easton wasn’t the right man for Ellis, and he wasn’t a reliable source of money either. No matter how carefully she and Ellis had planned things, they couldn’t outplay Easton.
If she had known this earlier, she would’ve picked a better husband for Ellis herself.
At least with the Hudson family’s influence, whoever Ellis married would have to show some level of restraint. But Easton was the head of the Hudson family. He did whatever the heck he wanted without consequences.
“Not long ago, at my birthday party, you wouldn’t stop talking about wanting Ellis to give … great- grandchild.” Scott wasn’t entirely convinced yet.
“That was my mistake. I didn’t realize what kind of man Easton really was.” Carly thought to herself. Good

Scott’s first wife had died young, and he never remarried. Over the years, he had many girlfriends and fathered several children, but every woman who got pregnant ended up being cast aside. Carly’s mother was no different she had been paid off and shut our of the Hudson family as soon as Carly was born. Scott had done the same to every other woman who had given birth to his children.
That night, the manor had a guest–Scott had summoned Easton.

Seeing Carly sitting beside his grandfather, Easton frowned in irritation. Did Ellis and Carly not want to DNA test?
Sometimes, the two of them were so alike it was hard to believe they weren’t mother and daughter.
Before Easton could speak, Carly got straight to the point. “Easton, I know about the divorce. He agrees- you and Ellis should split.”
Hearing that caught Easton off guard, and he frowned deeply. Did Carly tell Grandpa about this matter?
Scott handed a freshly brewed cup of tea to Easton and gestured for him to sit beside him.
Easton remained standing, looking away as he said, “Grandpa, Ellis is just throwing a tantrum. She’s not serious about the divorce. There’s no need for you to get involved.”
“She came here today and didn’t look like she was throwing a tantrum to me. Scott wasn’t interested in whether Ellis was upset or not. “You two are going to the Civil Affairs Department tomorrow to finalize the divorce.”
Scott’s tone left no room for argument. He didn’t care about Ellis’s reasons for wanting the divorce. If she had the sense to walk away, that would have saved him the trouble of handling it himself.
“I’m not some toy for people to control. Just because someone says something doesn’t mean I have to listen. Easton’s gaze swept around the room, his expression unreadable..
He wasn’t even sure what he was looking for.
But one thing was clear–right now, he had no interest in dealing with Scott, who was trying to push him. into a divorce.
“Then tell me why don’t you want a divorce? Ellis is beneath you. You never even wanted to marry her in the first place.” Scott wasn’t buying his reluctance. “Carly agrees, and no one’s stopping you. What’s the problem?”
