When Ellis got the call from Lois, she instantly knew it was about the coffee Easton wanted.
Damn it, that scumbag, showing up at my workplace and still bossing me around like I’m his personal assistant back at Hudson Group?
She was on the payroll, so she couldn’t exactly say no to Lois. Fuming, Ellis headed to the break room.
Her coworkers, noticing her tightly pursed lips and clearly unhappy demeanor as she angrily prepared the coffee, were puzzled. “Ms. Harper, did you have a rough night? Need coffee to wake up but don’t really want it?”
“No,” Ellis replied with a forced, polite smile.
This scumbag, making me serve him. I hope this coffee kills him!
Her drastic change in expression surprised her colleague.
Under her colleague’s astonished gaze, Ellis slowly walked out of the break room and into Lois’s office.
Pretending she didn’t know the coffee was for Easton, she set it down with a plastered smile next to Lois and said flatly, “Madam Lois, your coffee.”
As soon as Ellis placed the coffee down, Lois handed it to Easton across from her. Ellis’s displeasure radiated so intensely that it seemed to fill the air.
Lois caught Ellis’s subtle expressions and then turned to Easton, “Mr. Hudson, please drink.”
Easton didn’t drink right away, his gaze lingering on the young woman nearby.
Her cheeks puffed out in anger, clearly showing her disdain. Suddenly, he didn’t know what he could do to make her not dislike him.
It felt like he was walking through a foggy world, entangled in endless confusion.
Despite racking his brain, he couldn’t understand how she had changed so much in just a few months. After all, their relationship began with her drugging him, desperately wanting to secure her position as his wife.
Having delivered the coffee and completed her task, Ellis had no reason to stay.
Accidentally making eye contact with Easton, she felt as if she had ingested spoiled food, her stomach churning with revulsion.
He never understood the concept of respect, always aiming to disgust her wherever she was.
Angrily glaring at him, she turned and left without looking back.
Her hurried departure silently screamed her urgency to escape his presence.
Seeing this, Easton slightly pursed his lips and took a sip of the coffee. To his surprise, the coffee was sickeningly sweet, almost unbearable.
It wasn’t the unsweetened, black coffee he preferred. His first reflex was to spit it out, but remembering that she had made it –and it had been a long time since he’d had her coffee–he forced himself to drink half the cup.
Knowing Easton was here for Ellis and that Ellis didn’t want to see him, and with her own time being limited, Lois smiled and said. “Mr. Hudson, Ms. Harper has been quite busy lately.”
Easton got the hint. Lois could tell Ellis didn’t want to meet with him.
“Thank you for today, Madam Lois,” he said as he put down the cup and stood up.
“Mr. Hudson, it was no trouble at all,” Lois replied, making a gesture to walk him out in keeping with respected etiquette.
‘No need to see me out.”

He remembered where Ellis’s desk was and clearly saw her deeply engrossed in her work. This focus was something he had. never seen in her before.
She had been desperate to join his company, to be his assistant, her mind never really on her work but always clinging to him, as if sticking close would forever secure her spot as Mrs. Hudson.
He had to admit, there was a unique charm emitted by someone truly immersed in their work.
Unable to take his eyes off her, he walked straight up to her again and said, “Ellis.”
Why the heck is he calling me? She cursed him silently and glanced up at him ungraciously, issuing an order without hospitality, “I’m busy, don’t you see? Stop bothering me!”
“Why didn’t you go home over the New Year to pay respects to your elders?” Easton wanted to know why she hadn’t appeared during the entire New Year period, not even reaching out to Emma.
His question made those around them, who weren’t initially paying attention to their conversation, perk up their ears and glance their way. Feeling her coworkers‘ curious eyes, Ellis bit her lip in annoyance.
She didn’t directly answer Easton, instead pointing towards the elevator and said in a tone that betrayed no emotion, “Weren’t you in a hurry to leave? Go on, then.”
Publicly clashing with her ex in the office was the last thing she wanted–it was her, not him, who would be embarrassed!
She held back her anger, crafting an excuse about her ex being in a rush, trying to save some face.
He’d better recognize and back off!
“I’ll leave in a bit,” Easton paused, then looked straight at her, “New Year, are you going home?”
