“Good! I never wanted to be related to
someone like you.”
Г
River’s face was red with anger.
Summer grabbed his arm.
“River, please take me to the jewelry. I want
to wear something new.”
She did not notice how I felt, or even ask me.
Mom stood silently, and I grabbed her hand
and walked her out of the house.
Mom and I sat on the sofa together, and she
looked like she was trying to tell me
something.
I interrupted her and gave her a large stack of

papers.
Mom took it confused, and I encouraged her
to open the file.
Her hands started shaking.
Her hands trembled as she took out the pictures. She looked like she was going to tear them into pieces.
The pictures were of Dad and her dead sister.
Dad and his sister–in–law had been having an
affair before she even met Mom.
That was when I realized why my own father

treated my cousin better than me.
It turned out she was my sister, not my
cousin.
I collected these papers and decided to tell
my mom.
She cried and smiled, crazy.
She was already over 50, and she was hurt.
Mom went to the bathroom, washed her face,
put on some makeup, and headed downstairs.
I helped Mom, and she smiled at the three of
them. “Honey, River, you can go home. I will

take care of Summer.”
Dad and River looked confused, and Summer
was smiling.
Mom knew Summer wanted to do this to get
back at her mom.
She smiled back, and the three of them
stayed.
Mom took care of Summer, and Summer was
yelling at her.
She said the food was too hot or too cold,
and Mom did exactly what she said.

Summer was happy, and in three months,
Summer weighed 200 pounds.
She thought she would be happy because her
body was out of shape, but she could have a
son.
Every time she went to the doctor, she made
my mom go to show her that she was
pregnant.
Summer refused to let Mom go to the three-
month checkup and went by herself.
Summer was as white as a ghost and hid in
her room. She did not even eat dinner.

Mom and I thought Summer was hiding
something.
The next day, Summer was so happy and
invited me to tea to apologize, but not Mom.
I knew something was up, so I decided to go
to see what she was hiding.
Summer handed me a drink and apologized.
“Rainy, I was wrong. I hope you can forgive
me.”
I did not drink the tea.
Summer would not give up. “These coffee
beans are from another country. Please try a
sip, Rainy.”
She started sobbing.
It was quiet, so everyone looked at me like I
was bullying her.
I finally said yes and had a sip. “Can you stop
now?”
Summer grinned and left.
I ran to the hospital.
Suddenly, I was grabbed into the alleyway.
Someone covered my mouth and I could not

yell.
The heat rose from my stomach and went
into my body.
I can’t believe she’s putting something in my
drink.
The stinky man was touching my face, and I
started shivering.
I wanted to break free, but the drugs made
me feel weak.
When I thought all hope was lost, someone
flew through the alleyway and kicked the
gross man.

Chapter 2
I looked at Rich Jr., punching the old man,
and I was stuttering, “You can stand?!”
Rich Jr. did not answer. He called someone to
take care of the mess.
Then, he took me into the car, my face was
turning red.
The drug was making me go crazy, and all I
could see was the sweat.
Rich Jr. was swallowing, “Don’t move, let’s go
home.”
I wanted to pay him back.
After that, Summer invited me everywhere to
go out with her, but I knew she was up to no good and rejected her.
