Olivia was a student Mike was “helping out.”
She didn’t get good grades, but Mike still
wired her two grand every month.
And me? His so–called girlfriend? Never even
く
got a bouquet of freakin‘ flowers.
If I had something, Olivia had to have it too,
and it had to be better.
I got jealous a lot, but Mike would always say
I was being small–minded. “Olivia’s just a kid,
why are you getting on her case? I’m helping
her out, of course, I’m gonna give her the
best.”
Thanks to all his brainwashing, I started to
think I wasn’t generous enough. Now I see it
for what it was: not charity, just another
sugar daddy.
To lighten the mood, one of our friends went
to fill our glasses, when it came to Olivia,
Mike stopped them.
<
“Olivia can’t drink.”
The friend looked confused, and then
chuckled. “Really, Mike? You’re being way
overprotective with your little “child.” It’s just
a wine spritzer.”
Olivia stuck her tongue out playfully. “Mike
said, kids can’t drink.”
Something felt wrong, I picked up a crab for
her and put it in her bowl, “Olivia loves
seafood, doesn’t she?”
Mike quickly picked up the crab and glared at
me, “Olivia can’t eat seafood.”
Olivia, who normally loved seafood, didn’t
even touch it. I looked at her stomach, which
was slightly bulged, I felt a chill down my

So Olivia was pregnant at that point, that’s
why no matter how many times I proposed,
Mike never agreed.
He was afraid if Olivia got too big, and I’d
find out and not give him the heritage from
my parents.
I held the wine glass tightly, every day after
our wedding was spent in betrayal.
I remembered when Mike and I were first
starting the company, I was pregnant. But he
made me drink ten shots of strong wine to go
to an event, causing me to have a miscarriage
in the spot.
On the way to the hospital, he was
complaining, “It’s all your fault. Can’t you
even keep the blood in? You made me
So he did know how to care for a pregnant
woman, just not me.
I sighed and drank the wine in one gulp. It
was like saying goodbye to all my past
stupidity.
The meal was like eating rocks, Olivia
hiccuped, putting her hand on her belly and
then putting on an act, “Mike, my stomach
feels bad, didn’t you create some pill for
this?”
Mike pinched her nose, “Spoiled cat, you
can’t eat medicine without checking.”
I glanced at him, so he knew medicine was
not to be eaten without checking.
But after marriage, he had always seen me as
く
a test subject, having me test new medicines,
asking me to check my body for any negative
effects.
I had diseases all over my body, with
aftermaths that caused headaches and
stomachaches, unable to walk.
After dinner, they insisted on playing truth or
dare, the beer bottle pointed at Olivia.
Olivia chose dare, the friends started yelling,
“Is it not Valentine’s Day soon? Let’s make
this big, choose a person and get a wedding
certificate.”
“Whoa, this is a bit too big, right? Nope, let’s
change it.”
Olivia looked at Mike red–faced, then quietly
<
asked, “Mike, can I?”
Mike looked at me subconscioulsy, I couldn’t
help but roll my eyes.
Olivia cupped her hands together, begging
me, “Is it alright Stacy? It’s just a certificate,
and we can divorce. I don’t wanna get told I’m
a wimp.”
I said seriously, “Why are you asking me? If
you wanna get one, get one. Why does it
matter to me?”
Then I stood up to leave, Mike grabbed my
wrist, lowering, “Stacy!”
He’s eyebrows were wrinkled, showing his annoyance. I shrugged and let him go.
<
“I have something to do, go ahead and enjoy
yourselves.”
