After a few rings, Jessica answered. I introduced myself and asked, “Will you be coming alone for the test drive, Ms. Miller?” She hesitated but confirmed she would be.
“Please don’t misunderstand,” I rushed to explain. “I just wanted to be sure, since you’re pregnant, that there wouldn’t be any scents or anything in the car that might bother you.”
She sounded relieved. “That’s so thoughtful.
My husband was supposed to come, but
something came up.
“I’m five months along, though, so it’s a
pretty stable time. A test drive shouldn’t be a
problem.’
After hanging up, I found Jessica’s social
media, relying on memories from my previous
life.
Thankfully, she was a meticulous documenter.
Jessica came from a wealthy family and met
her husband, David, in college. After

this to myself?”
She seemed to catch herself, plastering a
smile back on. “Lisa, I have some pain relief
spray. It works wonders!”
“My cramps are so bad. You’re always so
nice to me. Please, just this once?”
She batted her eyelashes, clinging to my arm.
Goosebumps erupted on my skin. “Sarah,
you’re asking too much.”
“I have painkillers too. You could take some
and still do the test drive. It’s your client. I
don’t have to cover for you.‘
Sarah bit her lip, taking a step back. “Fine.
Lisa, don’t regret this.”
She stormed out. Watching her go, a knot
