“Gina, I was wrong,” he choked. “Everything was my fault. Please… give me another chance.”
“No.” My voice was calm. Clear. Final.
He looked up, eyes swimming with regret and panic.
“I admit it,” he said. “At first, being with you was a way to cover up my feelings for Natalie, but later-“}
“Later you realized I was easy to manipulate?“”
I cut in, voice sharp as a blade.
He shook his head frantically, but I only offered a bitter smile.
“Christoph, don’t insult my intelligence. Do you really expect me to believe you fell in love with me?”
“I did!” he cried, his voice cracking. “I didn’t realize it until it was too late–but I did! I fell for you slowly, without even knowing it. And by the time I understood what you meant to me… I’d already destroyed everything.“}
His words tumbled out in a mess of guilt and desperation.”
All I could see was the memory of that night–me, stripped and humiliated, forced to stand bare in the courtyard while the staff looked on like it was some sick show.
I stared down at him. And suddenly, I didn’t feel pity. I didn’t feel pain. Just clarity.”
“Your love? That’s a luxury I can’t afford.“}
My voice remained steady, “If you really loved me, you wouldn’t have thrown me outside, humiliated, for the staff to gawk at- just because I fell asleep in the tub. You wouldn’t have let Natalie kiss you right in front of me. And you sure as hell wouldn’t have hired a top–tier maternity nurse to train me like I was her maid.“}
With every sentence, Christoph’s face drained of color.
I didn’t care. I didn’t pause. I walked away without looking back. That should’ve been the end of it. But it wasn’t.”
From that day forward, he followed me. Everywhere.”
Flowers. Gifts. Apologies. Endless attempts to win back a woman he’d already broken.
I was beyond exhausted. Ready to move cities again–maybe even countries–when the last person I ever wanted to see suddenly showed up.
Natalie.
She saw Christoph kneeling beside me in the town square, offering a bouquet like a lovesick fool and the look on her face twisted into something monstrous.
Jealousy had eaten her alive.
Clutching her stomach, she pushed past the crowd and stepped right up to Christoph, eyes shining with desperate hope.\ “Chris… I’m pregnant.“}
The gift in Christoph’s hand froze mid–air. He turned toward her–just a glance–and his face instantly darkened with disgust.” “That child should’ve never existed,” he said, voice cold as ice. “Get rid of it. And don’t ever show your face to me again. Every time I see you, I feel filthy.””
Natalie went completely pale, her lips trembling.”
But Christoph didn’t even spare her a second look.
His eyes–his focus–was only on me. Still chasing. Still begging. Still far, far too late.
I didn’t want to let that pathetic pair ruin my day. I looked Christoph dead in the eye. “Do me a favor, Christoph–stop showing up in front of me. Just looking at you makes me sick.“}
Then I turned away, not even sparing him a glance as his face turned ghostly pale. I headed for the sidewalk, ready to disappear back into my peace.
Christoph must’ve known he wouldn’t earn my forgiveness anytime soon. He grabbed Natalie by the arm, planning to drag her off to get the abortion.
Natalie lost it. She yanked free, her eyes wild with desperation and hate, then suddenly lunged at me, screaming, “You bitch! This is all your fault! If you were dead, Chris would be mine!“”
By the time I realized what was happening, it was too late. She shoved me–hard–straight into oncoming traffic.”
I saw headlights. Heard tires screeching. Then–BAM.
Christoph’s body slammed into mine, knocking me to the pavement just as the car hit him instead. The impact launched him through the air. He landed with a sickening thud, blood pooling fast around him on the cold Swiss street.
Sirens wailed. Paramedics rushed in.

Sirens wailed
After hours of emergency surgery, the doctors delivered the verdict: he would survive–but he’d never walk again. Natalie was arrested at the scene. When Jill arrived from China and learned her only son was now permanently paralyzed, she completely lost it. In a blind fury, she beat Natalie so badly that the woman miscarried right there in the police station.
Later, once the rage cooled, regret hit her like a freight train.”
Meanwhile, Christoph…
When he finally woke up in that hospital bed, he didn’t hesitate. With the last of his power and wealth, he made sure Natalie would spend the next decade rotting behind bars.}
Two weeks later, Jill showed up at my door.”
She dropped to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably. “Gina, it was all my fault. Everything. Please, for the sake of the past, go see Chris… He knows he hurt you–he’s been punishing himself ever since. The doctors say if this continues, he might have a complete mental breakdown…”
In the end, I went. Not because of Jill’s begging, but because Christoph saved my life.”
When I entered the hospital room, I barely recognized him. Gaunt. Hollow–eyed. A shell of the man he used to be.”
The moment he saw me, something flickered in his eyes–light, hope, maybe even joy.
“Gina…”
I stood at the foot of his bed, my voice calm and even.”
“Thank you. For saving me.” His eyes filled with tears. “Gina, please… just one more chance. I swear, I love you–truly…“}
I shook my head. “Christoph, whatever we had–it ended a long time ago.“}
I watched as the light in his eyes slowly faded, like a candle burning out in the wind.”
Still, he didn’t stop trying. “Then let me spend the rest of my life making it up to you…” “No need.” I turned, stepping away. “I wish you a full recovery.“}
Just like that, I walked out of the hospital. The sun was shining.”
The nightmare of that marriage…
It’s finally behind me.
