After Waking Up, I Go to Teach in the Border Areas of My Motherland

Chapter

My wedding day. My soontobe husband

Captain David Miller, forced me to kneel

before his crying ex, Sarah

I refused, so he had his men throw me out of

the reception hall

Amidst the cheers of our guests, he placed

the wedding ring, meant for me, on Sarah’s

finger

Someone told him to go after me, that I’d be

furious

He just scoffed, Nah, she won’t be mad. She

can’t live without me

Right then, I ripped off my corsage, withdrew

our marriage application, and signed up to

volunteer in Alaska

  1. 1

After signing the papers, I went to the

hospital

I ran into David and Sarah, still wrapped up in

each other

They both froze when they saw me

Sarah’s eyes immediately welled up

She looked like I was the one who’d ruined

her wedding

Anna, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to cry at

your wedding. I was just scared David would

forget about me, his little sister, after he got

married!”

I panicked, and”

David patted her head, his face full of

concern

Don’t worry, Sarah. No matter who I marry

you’ll always be the most important person to

me.”

He turned to me, his eyes cold

Anna, do you know Sarah fainted because

you walked out?”

Apologize to her, and I’ll let it go.”

く

But don’t expect me to reschedule the

wedding!”

My stomach churned, maybe from the pain

maybe from heartbreak. My hands trembled

I walked out

Wasn’t he the one who had me thrown out

Before Sarah, David used to say I was the

most important person to him

In just a year, she’d taken my place

He’d even humiliated me at our own wedding

for her

I just gave a bitter laugh and went into the

examination room

I came out with two IV bags

My ulcer had flared up the moment David

forced me to kneel

I’d hidden it to keep what little dignity I had

left

Pale and weak, I couldn’t even lift the IV bags

After a few failed attempts, David suddenly

appeared and hung them for me

Thanks.”

I gave him a curt nod and sat down, avoiding

his gaze

He frowned, about to say something

く

Sarah coughed

David rushed to her side, What’s wrong? Are

you still feeling sick?”

Sarah glanced at me, then whispered to

David, David, my throat hurts from all that

crying.”

I remember Anna makes a great pear tea. I’d

love some.”

David immediately turned to me, his voice

sharp, Anna, after your IV, go home and

make Sarah some pear tea. It’s your fault her

throat is sore.”

I stared at him in disbelief

David I’m sick and vou’re not only ignoring

David, I’m sick, and you’re not only ignoring

me, but you’re asking me to make her tea?”

He didn’t answer, just looked away, back to

Sarah

I watched them, their affection sickeningly

sweet

This wasn’t the David I knew

He wasn’t the man who used to put me first

The last bit of my love for him vanished

Then I heard Sarah say, David, it’s okay

Don’t bother Anna.”

I don’t know why she’s suddenly sick, but I’m

sure she wouldn’t fake it just to get out of

く

David immediately looked at me with

suspicion

Anna, are you lying?”
