“What are you doing?!”
Chloe saw the shattered photos, my face torn
into unrecognizable pieces.
She broke down, her eyes bloodshot. She

grabbed Shane’s neck.
Her fury was enough to burn him alive. His face turned crimson. He struggled, gasping Chloe’s name.
I watched a video from Wang Ma, disbelief washing over me.
“Wang Ma, I’m not coming back. The Carter family’s affairs are none of my business
anymore.”
I hung up.
Was this Chloe’s act?
Chloe was greedy.
Even knowing she couldn’t have both, she’d
try anything to get it all.
She’d tried to trap me with the broken leg to
keep me close while she was with Shane. My heart felt hollow, a cold wind whistling

through it. The physical pain was gone, but an
emptiness remained.
“Mourning a lost love?”
A familiar voice interrupted. I turned to see
Chloe’s sister, Chloe.
“Dry your eyes.”
She handed me tissues. I was crying.
I wiped my face. “Thanks.”
“How’d you find me?”
Chloe stood behind me, calm.
“You missed your checkup. I was worried your
leg wouldn’t heal, and I’d be responsible.” Her lighthearted remark made me laugh.
Chloe and Chloe were alike, but their
personalities were different. Chloe, the older sister, was rebellious, while Chloe was calm and composed, hence the inheritance.
I first knew Chloe
く
I first knew. Chloe.
I loved Chloe.
But Chloe craved freedom, couldn’t bear the constraints of love, and left for America.
Meanwhile, Chloe was heartbroken by Shane.
Two wounded souls found comfort in each other.
That shared pain had bonded us quickly.
Chloe gave me all her love, all her tenderness. I gradually forgot Chloe.
People get lost in fantasy, mistaking it for love.
When I loved Chloe most, Shane delivered the
final blow.
And Chloe killed my love.
“I won’t hold anyone in your family
responsible.”

My cold tone made Chloe tense. She
straightened up.
“That’s not what I meant, I…‘
“I know. Let’s go. I’ll get a checkup.”
I interrupted, getting into her car. At the hospital, Chloe had arranged everything. The checkup was quick.
The results were good, Chloe relaxed. She asked where I’d go, I shook my head, leaving.
