Before losing consciousness completely, I thought I heard Kitten meowing, then everything
went black.
I don’t know how long I’d slept. I opened my eyes, blinded by the sunlight.
Charlie Lewis’s voice, laced with anger, cut through the air.
“Heart failure, miscarriage… the doctor said you don’t have much time left.”
“Why? Why didn’t you ever tell me? Did you even consider me your boyfriend!”
Charlie Lewis sat to one side, his eyes red–rimmed, clutching the diagnostic report in his
hand.
I felt numb.
I’d been pregnant with Charlie Lewis’s child.
But every day, I had to get up before dawn, and at night, I had to make nutritious meals and
warm his bed.
He’d even stick his cold feet against me to warm them up.
Sometimes he’d even make me carry that huge, heavy bag up the mountain.
I was constantly in a weakened state, so it’s no surprise I lost the baby.
I gave a frank smile.
“It’s for the best. He should run away quickly; otherwise, it’d be awful for him to be born
without a father.”
Charlie Lewis’s pupils dilated, and he froze for a moment.
“So you’ve been planning to leave me all along, haven’t you?”
He suddenly lunged forward, pinning my hands and trapping me in the middle of the bed.
“Why are you doing this to me!”
Perhaps, I really did love Charlie Lewis once.
But that’s all in the past now.
My eyes slowly scanned Charlie Lewis’s face, and I smiled softly.
“You don’t deserve me, not after choosing Karen Lynn over me time and time again.”
“I don’t even like you anymore.”
Charlie Lewis finally broke down and cried.
I reached out and brushed away his tears.
“You should be happy. I’m leaving, so you can finally be with Karen Lynn, right?”
“I’m not happy!”
Charlie Lewis roared at me.
“I’ve been putting on an act for you these past few days. Didn’t you even notice?”
“I deliberately introduced you as just my Assistant, I deliberately made you apologize to How could you not understand?”
“The person I’ve always liked is you.”
“I knew you came with that so–called System, but I still couldn’t help myself. And now it’s

“I deliberately introduced you as just my Assistant, I deliberately made you apologize to her. How could you not understand?”
“The person I’ve always liked is you.”
“I knew you came with that so–called System, but I still couldn’t help myself. And now it’s taking you home, isn’t it?”
“You want to leave me? Dream on!”
I don’t know when he found out about the System’s existence.
The System hovered beside me, not daring to make a sound. We panted, silently staring at each other, until Karen Lynn walked in.
“Charlie?”
“Was everything you just said true?”
I deliberately pulled Charlie Lewis over and kissed him in front of her.
“I was lying.”
Charlie Lewis’s eyes lit up, and he tried to approach me, but I pushed him away.
“You don’t want me to leave? Fine, then make her kneel and admit she was wrong.”
“Make her kowtow a few more times to apologize to my Kitten, and then get lost.”
Charlie Lewis lowered his head, his lips pursed.
Looking at his silence, I knew he couldn’t do it.
Karen Lynn panicked, her eyes instantly brimming with tears.
“Shirley, you know how much I love Charlie.”
“Four years ago, I only went abroad because Charlie and I were fighting. You took advantage of that. Everyone called you shameless, but I defended you. If it weren’t for me, you would have
been dragged through the mud online long ago!”
“You were about to give up, so why are you clinging to him now?”
Suddenly, she actually knelt on the ground.
“I’m begging you, please give Charlie back to me.”
Charlie Lewis finally couldn’t help himself and stood up, wanting to help her up.
Karen Lynn sidestepped, avoiding him, and glared at me.
“If Shirley won’t forgive me, I won’t get up.”
The ward door was open, and everyone passing by could see her kneeling on the ground. I
looked like the villain.
Charlie Lewis knelt, helping Karen Lynn up, and frowned at me.
“She’s already knelt as you asked. Isn’t that enough for you?”
“It’s not.”
I looked down at Charlie Lewis.
“Since you’re so protective of her, why don’t you kneel too? Consider it atonement on her behalf.”
Charlie Lewis’s eyes turned cold.
I sneered.

I sneered.
“Charlie Lewis, is this your idea of love? You can’t even bring yourself to kneel.”
“I don’t want your affection. Just get out.”
Ever since Charlie Lewis entered the entertainment industry, he’s been living a life of luxury
and adoration.
And after I came along, I treated him with even more care and attention. He’s never experienced anything like it.
left.
He refused to lower his head, his face flushed crimson.
But wanting everything? How could that ever be possible?
Seeing Karen Lynn so aggrieved and afraid to leave Charlie Lewis makes me feel vindicated.
“Enough!”
Charlie Lewis couldn’t bear to see Karen Lynn suffer, and helped her up.
“Let’s just drop it.”
“Shirley, it’s just a kitten. I’ll get you another one that looks exactly the same.”
“Karen has a headache and isn’t feeling well; she can’t do these things.”
I reached out, pulled him close, and slapped him across the face.
“Charlie Lewis, you’re lower than an animal.”
Charlie Lewis’s tone grew colder and more impatient. He turned, took Karen Lynn’s hand, and
“I’ll see you later.”
