Returning to my room, we ran into Jake. What
bad luck.
Jake leaned against the wall, a mocking smile
on his face. “I knew why you were so eager to
break up with me, you found someone
better.”

From his perspective, Daniel and I looked
ambiguous.
But I didn’t pull away from Daniel’s hand.
On the contrary, I felt the warmth and strength of his hand.
I deliberately leaned closer.
Why couldn’t I retaliate against Jake?
“Yeah, someone better than you,” I said calmly.
“Sarah, who’s Daniel? You’ll be played by him
eventually.”
My anger reignited. “Looks like I hit too
lightly.”
Before I finished, I kicked him. Jake,
unprepared, fell hard, groaning.
“You can’t even speak properly with a broken
bone, let me teach you,” I looked down at
him, my tone cold.
“Let’s go,” Daniel softly reminded, supporting
- me.
