Early in the morning, Jessica got up and made breakfast. After eating with her son and Selene, they headed downstairs together.
As usual, Selene was the one driving. She would first drop Arthur off at kindergarten, then take Jessica to work before heading to her office.
Just as they reached the apartment entrance, Selene got off the car.
Not far away, a sleek black luxury sedan was parked. The door suddenly opened, and Jane stepped out.
“Jessica,” Jane called out coldly.
Hearing her name, Jessica looked up, slightly surprised to see Jane here this early in the morning.
Judging by how she stormed over, she wasn’t here for anything good.
Jessica didn’t want Jane to see her son, so she quickly told Selene to take the child to the car and wait for her there.
Selene frowned. “Don’t bother with her.”
“It’s fine. She’s already found me here. Even if I avoid her now, she might just show up at my workplace next time,” Jessica reassured her with a pat on the shoulder.
Knowing Jessica had a point, Selene sighed. “Alright, but be careful. If anything seems off, call me right away.”
“Got it” Jessica smiled and turned to her son, ruffling his hair. “Go with your godmother and wait for me in the car!
Arthur frowned. “Mommy, come back quickly.” He had a bad feeling about this woman.
“I will. Now go.” Once she saw them leave, Jessica walked over to Jane.
“Jane, what brings you here?”
She barely got the words out before–slap! Jane swung her hand across her face without warning.
A burning pain spread across Jessica’s cheek, and a ringing filled her ears.
Jane’s furious voice followed immediately. “Jessica, do you have no shame? Who gave you the audacity to come back? Get out of Eldoria immediately, or you’ll regret it!”
Still stunned by the slap, Jessica barely had time to react before she heard the sound of running footsteps behind her. A small figure suddenly rushed in front of her.
Arthur choued lane with all his might his little fare filled with anger “You evil woman! How dare

Selene had also run over, giving the boy a thumbs–up before glaring at Jane. “You crazy old hag! Hitting someone in broad daylight? You want me to call the cops and get you locked up?”
Jane had been caught off guard by Arthur’s push. She stumbled back and nearly fell, managing to steady herself by grabbing onto the car.

Once she regained her footing, her face twisted in rage. But as her gaze fell on the little boy, she suddenly froze. This child… he looked so familiar.
A strange feeling crept over her. Why did he remind her of Hugh when he was a kid?
He had called Jessica mommy, but did that mean he was her son?
Jane’s initial anger was quickly replaced by shock and suspicion. “This… this is your son?” She stared at Jessica in disbelief.
Jessica had deliberately avoided letting Jane see her child to prevent unnecessary trouble, but things had still spiraled out of control.
“Evil woman! You hit my mommy–I’m calling the police!” Arthur absolutely would not allow anyone to bully his mommy.
Jessica gently pulled her son behind her, shielding him from Jane’s prying eyes. Her voice turned icy. “Jane, if you came here just to tell me to leave, don’t waste your breath. Where I go and what I do is none of your business. You have no right to interfere.”
Jane had indeed come to force her out of Eldoria, but her thoughts were in disarray after seeing Arthur.
Could this child be Hugh’s son?
If he was part of the Hensleys, she would never allow him to stay with Jessica!
She had to find out the truth about this boy’s background.

“Fine, stay if you want, Jane sneered. “But if you dare ruin Hugh’s marriage, I won’t let Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she added, “And don’t even think about getting close to Charles! A woman like you isn’t worthy of being near him!”
“Get lost, you old witch!” Selene snapped. “You’re not welcome here!”
Jane shot her a sharp glare but didn’t say another word. She took one last look at Arthur before turning and getting into her car, speeding off.
Jessica frowned, uneasy. She had a bad feeling–her attitude had changed since Jane had seen her son. Was she planning something?
“Mommy, your face is all swollen. Does it hurt?” Arthur asked worriedly, his little hands reaching

Jessica snapped out of her thoughts. “It’s fine. It doesn’t hurt that much.” Then she smiled and praised him. “I didn’t expect my little man to be such a hero, protecting me like that.”
“Mommy, if anyone bullies you again, just tell me. I’ll fight them off for you!”
Jessica chuckled at his serious expression, warmth flooding her heart. “Alright, from now on, count on you to protect me.

The three of them exchanged smiles.

Later, Jessica stopped by a pharmacy to buy some ointment for her face before heading to work. But no matter how much she tried to brush it off, she couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling left behind by Jane’s reaction–especially how she looked at her son. It unsettled her more than she cared to admit.
