Chapter 1
My husband was fvcking another woman, but he should’ve died twenty years ago.
Two years after our marriage, Liam Foley died in a plane crash.
For the past twenty years, I never stopped pining for him.
But today, when I was about to end my life, I bumped into Liam, alive and breathing just fine.
As he met my gaze, his smile faded.
And in that instant, I understood everything.
A sudden avalanche took my life.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back in the first year of my marriage.
This time, I swore to let him go through the same pain.

Jessie Shepard stared blankly at the surroundings. Liam’s last words before his supposed death still echoed in her mind.
She sat frozen on the couch, a dull ache spread through her chest, twisting like a knife, making it hard to breathe,
Turned out, Liam hadn’t died–he had been spending his life with another woman…
It had all happened too fast. So fast that she hadn’t even had the chance

to ask him why.

Just then, her phone rang. Jessie moved her numb body and picked up the phone.
“Babe, Alan invited us to dinner tonight. Get ready. I’ll pick you up after work.”
Liam’s affectionate tone made Jessie feel like everything before had been nothing more than a nightmare.
Liam arrived on time. The moment he walked through the door, he pulled her into a tight hug.
“Babe, feeling cold? Why are you shaking?”
Jessie gazed at the man in front of her in despair. But she couldn’t bring herself to ask him why.
Because this wasn’t the 44–year–old Liam who had faked his death. He wouldn’t have an answer for her.
In the passenger seat, a bag of cakes sat waiting, each of them was her old favorite. Liam had picked them up for her in advance.
Seeing that she wasn’t reaching for them, he raised an eyebrow. “Not hungry?”
Jessie lowered her gaze and quietly tied the bag shut. “Too much sugar. I don’t want it.”
He didn’t know that after his “death,” she had stopped eating sweets. The sweetness on her tongue always melted into nothing but bitterness.
As Jessie stared at the cakes in front of her, cold reality came crashing back. She stared at the man beside her as he took her left hand,

bringing it to his lips for a gentle kiss.
“What’s on your mind?”
Jessie didn’t answer.
She was just wondering when Liam, who loved her so much, fell for someone else. When had he started planning to fake his death and leave her behind?
They arrived at the club. Liam held her hand as they walked toward the booked private room. As they passed another room, the door was slightly ajar.
From where they stood, they could peep inside: smoke swirled in the air, men and women were laughing and joking, and someone was egging others on to drink.
Jessie quickly looked away. But Liam stopped in his tracks.
Jessie bumped into his arm. She frowned and turned her head, only to find Liam’s face darkened.
“Babe, I left something in the car. You go ahead.”
After that, Liam quickly turned and walked away, not even telling her the room number.
She watched his back, her eyes seeming to sink to the bottom of a still lake.
She had checked before getting out of the car, and there was nothing in it.
Liam was lying.
This was the first time in all their time together that he had lied to her.
