Days later, I saw Mark at a cafe near my
work.
“Wendy.”
He looked haggard.
“Let’s get back together?”
“You know I love you. I’ve had stomach
problems since I saved you.”
“My stomach hurts without you. Don’t you
care?”
I scoffed.
<
“Really? Saved me?”
“Was that a setup with John? You’re still
acting. Bravo, you’re dedicated.”
Mark looked awkward.
“Wendy, I approached you for a reason, but I
truly love you. Believe me.”
“You love me?”
I laughed.
“Love me enough to cheat with a starlet?” “Don’t give me your cheap sincerity, Mark.”
I threw my coffee on his face.
I left a few bills and walked away.
Days later, a big news story broke.
“[Jianning Group Chairman publicly declares
his daughter the sole heir.]”
“[Grace and Mark sued by Jianning Group for
embezzlement.]”
I felt nothing, but John unexpectedly showed
- up.
“Wendy, Dad’s sorry.”
I was shocked.
He looked haggard, much older.
He bowed, unlike a CEO.
“Wendy, please, let me see your mother, just once.”
“I went to the grave, but was turned away.” “Please, I just want to see Susan.”
He was begging.
“Never. You’ll never see my mother again.”
“You cheated, you lied, you abandoned her,
she’s gone, you have no chance to see her
again.”
He stood there stunned.
After a long time, he left, hunched over and
trembling.
