He walked to my side.
Looking at the two in front of me, he clicked

his tongue twice.
“Oh, it’s the bottom of our class. Never mind,
our IQs aren’t on the same level.”
Heather reached out to hit Jason.
Jason, usually carefree, now had a don’t-
mess–with–me aura.
He looked at her without emotion: “Scram.”
“Do you really think I’m someone you can
offend?”
He walked over and helped me pack my bag.
Elijah quietly watched, his eyes calm, but I
clearly saw his clenched fist, his veins
bulging.
But he said nothing.
When he left with Heather, he glanced back
at me.
He said something silently.
But I didn’t care.
On the way home, Jason said: “Leave this to

I nodded.
And immediately asked: “My background
check? What’s that got to do with you?”
His cheeks flushed slightly: “I’m just
reminding you not to do anything out of line.”
But how did he know I was applying to Tech
University?
