The Last Confession
Chapter 1
My best friend, Lily, drew the most
humiliating dare in the game at Noah’s
birthday party-
Publicly confess her feelings to the ugliest,
most sullen boy in school.
She looked up, her eyes filled with a pitiful,
panicked vulnerability. “Noah, I don’t want to.
Then Noah pointed at me.
“Then you do it for her, Ethan.”

I plated the cake, carrying the little plates
from the kitchen.
The game had already started.
They hadn’t waited for me.
It wasn’t a big deal, I told myself.
It was Noah’s 20th birthday party, after all,
filled with his closest friends. Each one of
them came from a wealthy family, the cream
of the North City social circle.
I wasn’t really close to any of them.
They were having their own fun; it was
perfectly normal.
I found a chair in the corner and sat down. The game was simple: truth or dare. The
bottle spun, landing on whoever had to face
the consequences.
I watched for a while.
It was pretty boring.
I yawned, about to sneak a piece of cake,
when they all erupted in excited chatter. “Oh my god, it’s Lily’s turn!”
“Lily, pick truth! I’ve already got the perfect
く
question.”
They teased Lily and Noah, whistling and
catcalling.
But Lily shook her head.
“No.”
She reached for a white card from the table.
“I’ll choose a dare…‘
She couldn’t finish the sentence. The
atmosphere froze. Someone stood up, read
the card aloud.
“Confess your feelings to the ugliest, most unpleasant student in the school.”
