I giggled. “You’re so childish!”
Chase was serious, like always. He placed a
folded star in my palm, took mine, carefully
putting it in his pocket. He leaned in, his
breath on my face, his fingers on my cheek.
“Ethan,” he whispered.
“Hmm?”
“Don’t hide.”
His kiss was soft and gentle, like the night
stars in winter. Afterward, I discovered he’d
secretly taken a picture.
I pounced on him. “Are you crazy? What’s so
special about that?”
<
He grinned mischievously. “I’m claiming my
territory.”
He’d seen the forum posts. He wanted to
refute the gossip.
“It wasn’t love at first sight; we’re childhood
sweethearts.”
He posted two pictures: one of us kissing
under the night sky, the other of our hands,
each holding a star. The caption:
[We’re not breaking up. We’ll be together forever.]
