I heard Chase’s story for the first time. After
the crash, he was in a vegetative state. But
rescuers found his family. He started hearing
a metallic voice:
“You’re the one Ethan wants to keep.”
“Don’t worry, once she completes the cannon
fodder mission, you’ll wake up.”
He could sometimes hear me.
“I have to write a paper for Noah, so annoying.”
“When will the basketball game end? I have
to be his cheerleader.”

will come back.”
“Confess?”
“Kai, you’ll come back, right?”
A tear rolled down his cheek. He lowered his
hand. He was crying.
“Ethan,” he whispered, his voice trembling.
