Chapter 5
After getting our marriage certificate with Susan, I started packing my belongings to move.
I had already told Susan that in a while, I would be assigned to work in the country where she had been living long–term, so we could live together.
When she heard this news, she was so touched that her eyes welled up with tears.
She told me that she had originally planned to apply to her superiors to return to China soon, but never expected that I would act first, requesting an overseas assignment to her country.
Hearing that she was willing to return home for me, a warmth spread through my heart.
It had been a long time since someone had so openly chosen me.
However, compared to having her return to China, my overseas assignment makes more sense.
She had been building her career abroad for so long, and handling her return wouldn’t be easy.
Meanwhile, I had nothing keeping me in China, and the overseas assignment would multiply my salary several times over.
As I was unhurriedly packing my things, the door suddenly opened.
Seeing Jocelyn with two massive dark circles under her eyes, I frowned.
Jocelyn spotted the packed luggage in my home, and her hand, holding an amulet, froze in mid–air.
“You’re moving? Where are you going? Did you really get married to someone else?”
I ignored her. Seeing my silence, she grew anxious.
“Oscar! Are you really doing this? Look, if you don’t like Hugo, I won’t bring him around you anymore. Will that work?”
Hearing her seemingly fair arrangement, I almost laughed.
If she weren’t a woman, I would have given her a reality check.
Who gave her the confidence to think a man would allow his lover to have another man in her heart?
“Not appear in front of me? Jocelyn, do you think you’re such a treasure that everyone desires you? Let me tell you, I’m married now, and I love my wife very much.”
Hearing my words, Jocelyn irritably ran her fingers through her hair.

“You don’t need to act so dramatically. I agree to marry you, okay? We’ll get the certificate tomorrow. That should satisfy you, right?”
Jocelyn’s tone seemed compromising, but listening carefully, it was full of insincerity.
Deep down, she was convinced I could never leave her and thought everything I was doing now was just to pressure her into marriage.

Looking at the stubborn Jocelyn, I held our newly obtained marriage certificate in front of her.
“Look carefully. I’m already married. If you still don’t believe it, go ask your friends at the police station to check if I’m married or not.”
Only then did Jocelyn realize that I wasn’t joking about not marrying
her.
She snatched the marriage certificate from my hand, her face full of
disbelief.
“Impossible! How could you do this!”
I took back the certificate, which she had creased in her grip, and carefully smoothed out the wrinkles.
“Nothing’s impossible. Just like how much I loved you before- thinking about it now, it was just my one–sided feelings. So, I’m letting you be with Hugo, and I’m also freeing myself.”

Jocelyn finally left, looking utterly dejected.

Watching her retreating figure, I only felt how absurd it all was.
My gaze fell on the amulet she had dropped on the ground.
I sneered and threw it into the trash bin, yet I couldn’t help feeling my mood grow heavier.
The phone rang, interrupting my thoughts.
“Hubby~ What are you doing?”
On the other end, Susan’s voice was sweet and tender.
I answered truthfully, but she seemed to detect that I wasn’t in a good mood and insisted on taking me out for a late–night snack.
Following her to a fondue restaurant (a place serving melted cheese dishes), I ran into someone I never expected to see.
