I staggered back to my room
As soon as the door closed, I collapsed on the floor, my gaze falling on the sleeping form of Jasper in his bed.
His small body curled up under the covers, breathing steadily, his side profile peaceful and lovable. He had just learned to say “daddy,” but Sebastian had already destroyed his future.
He was supposed to be the most noble future Alpha of the pack, but because of the wolfbane’s damage to his nerves, he was doomed to live a life unlike that of any normal werewoll.
The thought that he might live the rest of his life in confusion and dementia was too much to bear. I couldn’t stop myself from crying out in anguish.
After the incident, I blamed myself countless times, for not protecting him, for not noticing the signs sooner.
But I never imagined—the one who truly harmed my child was the mate I had once loved, the mate I thought was fated to be with me
For that woman, for Celeste, he had sacrificed his own flesh and blood, pushing our son into hell.
My Jasper was still so young–how could he be so cruel?!
I thought the mate bond was a gift from the moon goddess, but now, it was nothing more than a joke that had led me into the abyss.
I trembled as I lifted my eyes, and saw Sebastian standing in the doorway.
He smiled gently, just like always, but his voice had a slight tremor in it.
“Marigold, were you just outside my study?”
I didn’t try to hide my wounds. I simply smiled faintly,
“You’ve been taking care of Jasper these days, and I wanted to make you some oatmeal. But I’m clumsy, and I accidentally broke it. I didn’t want disturb you, so I just cleaned up ”
He sighed in relief and reached out to pull me into his arms.
“You silly girl, look what you’ve done to yourself, it breaks my heart.”
He unhesitatingly lifted my foot, looking at me with genuine concern.
But I knew,
everything was just an act
He had already fell for someone else. My child and I were just obstacles standing in the way of his true love.
I said nothing, letting him find the first aid kit and patiently tend to my wounds.
After he finished, he held my hand and spoke softly.
“Marigold, it’s time for you to donate blood. We should go to the pack doctor now.”
1 pulled away desperately, my voice tinged with resistance,
“Sebastian, I’ve been coughing up blood for days. Please, don’t push me,
Sebastian hesitated for a moment, about to speak, when his phone suddenly rang
He turned his back to me and answered the call. From the receiver, I could hear Celeste’s weak, take sobbing “Sebastian, my chest hurts so much. The pack doctor says I need a blood translusion ASAP. When can you come?”
After hanging up, he looked at me with an panic expression he couldn’t fully hide. Without saying another word, he lifted me off the ground and carried me in his arms.
“Marigold, please. If you’re scared, I’ll stay with you when you’re drawing the blood”
He spoke comforting words, but his voice held no warmth,
I stopped struggling, closing my eyes in despair as he shoved me into the car, speeding towards the hospital
At the hospital, he carried me in his arms, rushing toward the blood–drawing room like a madman.
The journey was rough, and my already frail body couldn’t take it anymore. Before we even reached the door, I coughed up a mouthful of blood. Sebastian gently wiped the blood from my lips.
But then he turned and pinned me down, signaling the pack doctor with his eyes to proceed with the blood draw.
As the cold needle pierced my skin, I instinctively clutched Sebastian’s sleeve, but the searing pain in my chest left me voiceless.
Just as my consciousness began to fade, I heard the doctor say with concern: “Alpha, Luna can’t afford to lose this much blood. If we keep going. she’ll die!“
Sebastian stared at me with icy eyes.
“Enough. Take as much as Celeste needs.”
“If not enough, I’ll have Jasper dragged here too! I don’t care what it takes. Celeste will not die on my watch!”
My blood ran cold.
In his heart, Jasper and I combined weren’t worth as much as his precious Celeste.
I managed a bitter smile before surrendering to the darkness.
When I woke again, I was in a standard hospital room,
Sebastian sat by my bed, his eyes red–rimmed with worry.
The moment he saw me stir, tears spilled down his face.
“Marigold, the doctor said you lost too much blood–that’s why you passed out.”
“Thank the moon goddess, you’re awake. I thought…I thought I’d lost you.”
He pulled me into a crushing embrace, his sobs raw and trembling
But I only found lum disgusting.
After nearly killing me, why bother to play the devoted mate now?
I pushed him away gently, forcing a weak smile.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. Jasper’s alone at home–you should go check on him.”
A shadow crossed Sebastian’s face.
I assumed it was guilt over our son–until he spoke.
“Marigold the doctors say Jasper may never recover. They’re not even sure he’ll live to adulthood.”
“Maybe…we should consider adopting a healthy heir. Someone who could lead the park one day,
I stared at him, stunned
Oblivious, he brought my hand to his lips, kissing my knuckles.
“You’ve been grieving so hard since the accident. It breaks my heart. Maybe a new child would-
The words died in my tilroat.
After a long silence, I spoke tentatively: “Sebastian I don’t want to raise someone else’s child, so why don’t we have another one someday?”
Ho recoiled like I’d stuck him
“Are you insane?”
Realizing his outburst, he softened his tone, yet Isis eyes betrayed him, darting away like guilty things.
“Marigold, your body can’t handle another pregnancy. Lean’t stand to see you suffer like this.”
“Besides, with Jasper’s condition…he’ll need lifelong care. The pack doctor mentioned today that Celeste’s family is looking to adopt out their son. So Tthought ”

“He’s the only heir of my blood. Everything I do is for him.”
My heart twisted like a knife had plunged into it.
He’d stolen everything from our son—even the right to be loved
And he had the gall to call this mercy.
After all this time, I wondered if he even knew what a lie sounded like anymore,
When I finally spoke, my voice was eerily calm.
“Fine. Do what you want.”
Sebastian wept with joy, pressing a

My heart had already shattered.
He practically ran from the room, muttering about consulting the doctors–too eager to hide his glee.
I pretended not to see Celeste smirking at me from the hallway. Instead, I reached for Sebastian’s forgotten phone with trembling hands.
