The arrangements
Xander POV
The moment we get back, Serafine goes to her room. I don’t bother talking to her, I let her go. Instead, I walk through to one of the offices and sit down. I’m lost on what to do right now.
“How did it go?” Killian asks as he steps into the room.
Garrick shakes his head, but it’s too late, he’s already asked.
“She lied.” I sit down, running a hand through my hair.
“About what part?” Garrick looks at me.
“About everything, they said hi to her, like they knew her. Then her father was alone, and laughed at me for even
considering believing her words. She wasn’t locked away, and she did tell him everything.
“I get her father said it, but wait for evidence before you react.” Garrick looks at me. “You regretted that last punishment, let‘ s not do it again.
I laugh. “I don’t regret it now, she did tell him those things.”
Garrick simply nods, and I sit and explain everything to him. What was said, how Giddeon reacted. I let him know everything because Giddeon knows. So now what do I do?
He knows my plan isn’t happening, he knows whatever I was about to do to him won’t happen. I don’t have the element of surprise on my side.
“Your only choice is to go there to destroy him with him knowing what you’re planning or, you let it go.”
Garricks words anger me.
“I will not let it go!” My body moves and stand up to glare at him. “Would you? If it was you and your mate, would you let it go?”
He stiffens for a moment. “No, I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t have a pack to look after though, to protect.”
“The pack is safe, if I kill him it’s far safer.” How can they not see that?
“And Serafine? What’s your plan for her? You think she told her father everything that means she’s not on your side. So what’s your plan?”
I don’t want to consider that. “I never wanted a mate.”
“But you have one!” Killan looks at me. “So you need to decide what your plan is for her.”
“This isn’t like I bought her knowing she was my mate. I bought her as revenge to get back at Giddeon. I bought her in the hopes she would tell me things about her father and his pack. She was nothing more than a pawn, one that isn’t any use right now as she’s not told me anything useful.”
Killan sits down quietly and looks at me.
“This plan has been in the works for a decade. After Giddeon killed my mate I changed everything, and I was almost there. Buying Serafine was nothing more than a move. If she’s telling him things, lying to me, then what use is she?”
“So you’re throwing her out?” Garrick looks at me.
“No, I’m burning her with her father. I still do it, I make a move with the rogues, I destroy his entire pack, I make her watch as I destroy everything she loves, then I leave her there for the rogues.”
My wolf attacks at me, but I push him back. She’s betrayed us too many times. I won’t let it keep happening, she deserves everything that she gets.
“She’s your mate though, her been Giddeon’s daughter shouldn’t matter,” Garrick explains.
“It’s not who her father is! It’s the lies, the deceit and her telling her father things that he should never have been told. So when I tear down her father, I tear her down with him.”
The room falls into silence, and I may be coming across as cruel, but what choice do I have? She lied, over and over, about everything. I’m not sure if anything she’s told me is the truth right now.
“When do you plan to make this move?” Killan looks at me.
“I’m not even sure, I don’t know. It needs to be soon though I can’t wait around, the longer I wait the more he will be expecting it. Right now he won’t be because h Successfully unlocked! ything.”
We talk for a few moments, and I know this neeas to happen soon. The phone rings and I slide it to Killan. I’m not in the mood to deal with trades and such.
“Hello, Killan answers, and I look at the map of Giddeon’s pack. “One moment,” hey says before looking at me. He places down the phone and puts it on speaker. “Go on.”
The arrangements
“Xander, I’m aware you know who I am. I was close by as you spoke to Giddeon about my son Jace”
My body tenses. I don’t care about your son.”
“No, he lied. When he said hello to Serafine, it was a lie, he hadn’t met her. I heard him and Giddeon speaking after you left. He was paid to act like he had seen her and met her, and pretend that it was her who went to him to make deals.”
My hands fist, “what?” That’s a lie, it has to be a fucking fie
There’s a quiet sigh. “I apologise for not saying before, I didn’t want to punishment Giddeon would hand down. Serafine was treated awfully, her room was a box, without a door. She had maybe three item of clothing, and was only permitted to eat what was given to her and it barely enough to survive with.”
“How do I know this isn’t a lie? This could be one of her friends continuing on the game for her.”
*Jacob from your pack, he’s been working with Giddeon for a few years, ask him. He’s the one who told Giddeon about you.”
My body freezes. Jacob went near her that night, and he told me it was a mistake because he had worked a long shift on the border. What have I done? I saw her as a liar, punished her and treated her badly, and it wasn’t even her.
The knock has me groaning. “Not now!” I roar
“Alpha, Serafine was found running away from the pack house with a bag. She left a note saying she’s had enough of being the enemy.”
My wolf lunges and I stare at the maid. She wouldn’t, she can’t. I stand and run out, she can’t get out, she doesn’t have the strength to take on the betas are the boarder. I can’t risk it though, I begin to run in the direction her scent is.
