Before Uncle Zack could answer, Lachlan called.
“Are you alright? Uncle Zack told me Jasper took you, and I was worried. Did he manage to get you?”
Uncle Zack couldn’t help but chuckle and answered for me.
“Yes, he did. Don’t worry, Mr. Lachlan. You’ve called over a hundred times in just an hour. If you’re this concerned, you should come back soon and see your wife.”
Hearing Uncle Zack’s words, I instinctively checked my phone’s call log. Sure enough, there were over a hundred missed calls.
Seeing the glaring red words, my eyes weiled up with tears.
Sensing my emotions, Lachlan’s comforting voice reached me.
“I’ll be back in a couple of days. The wedding dress I ordered for you has arrived. You can try it on tomorrow. If it doesn’t fit, it can still be altered.”
“You even arranged for a wedding dress?”
“What else? Getting married is the basic thing. Did you think we’d just get the certificate and call it a day?”
“How can my wife not have a wedding?”
His slightly teasing tone touched me deeply.
All my disheveled feelings vanished.
The pain in my head seemed to lessen considerably.
He continued speaking.
“Get ready, and when I return, we’ll have the wedding.“”
“Okay.” I tried hard to suppress the choke in my voice and responded softly.
Just after hanging up, Jasper’s call came through immediately.
I glanced at it, annoyed, and hit the hang–up button, blocking and deleting him in one go.
The next day, I followed Lachlan’s directions to the bridal shop.
Before I even entered, I heard the voices of the staff and a customer arguing.
“I’m really sorry, Miss Jiang, but this wedding dress is custom–made and not for sale.”
Then, I heard Jasper’s voice.
“How much are they offering? I’ll pay double!”
The clerk was guarding a golden wedding dress, looking troubled.
“Mr. Jasper, it’s not about the money”
“Mr. Jasper, it’s not about the money.”
“Ten times!” Jasper raised the bid again.
“Really, it’s not…”
“A hundred times!”
“Forget it, just light a sky lantern!”
Jasper interrupted, leaving the clerk speechless.
I walked in and broke the stalemate.
“Hello, I’m here to pick up my wedding dress.”
The clerk compared the photo in her hand, then greeted me with delight.
“Miss Cora, you’ve arrived.”
Saying that, she handed me the golden wedding dress and led me to the fitting room.
“Your wedding dress is ready. Please try it on here.”
Seeing this, Jasper grabbed the wedding dress from my hands, his eyes red with anger.
“Cora, I told you to stay home and reflect. Where did you run off to last night? Whose car did you get into?”
I looked at him without answering, just frowning slightly.
“Give me back my wedding dress.”
Only then did he realize we were in a bridal shop. Looking at the dress in his hand, he started with scornful remarks.
“When did you order a wedding dress? Didn’t I say we’d have the wedding after Phoebe gives birth?”
Then, he handed the wedding dress to Phoebe.
“Alright, I won’t hold last night against you. Phoebe said she’s never worn a wedding dress in her life and probably wont have the chance again. While you can’t tell she’s pregnant yet, let her wear it for some photos to fulfill her wedding dream. You can give this to her, and I’ll get you another later!”
Hearing this, everyone around assumed a gossiping expression, whispering.
“It looks like a love triangle. This woman seems to be ousted, her husband impregnating another, now even taking her wedding dress. That’s just tragic.”
Watching Jasper’s shameless demeanor, I laughed in anger.
“Who told you I was marrying you? And who gave you the right to give my wedding dress to someone else?”
“If not marrying me, then who?”

Sensing the tension, Phoebe handed the wedding dress back to me, pretending to be understanding.
“Sister Adeline, I’m sorry. I didn’t know this was your wedding dress. I won’t take it. You can have it back. Don’t be mad at
Senior.”
Ignoring her fake sweetness, I stepped forward to take back the dress, but she held onto it tightly.
With a slight tug, she exaggeratedly fell back, and Jasper caught her just in time.
Then he snatched the wedding dress from my hands.
“It’s just a tattered wedding dress. She already gave it back. Why can’t you let it go? If you don’t apologize to Phoebe today, don’t even think about marrying!”
As the sound of tearing echoed, I moved forward in anger, but Jasper pushed me hard.
The force was so strong that I staggered back, almost falling.
A strong pair of hands caught me from behind, and Lachlan’s voice reached my ear.
“Darling, have you tried it on?”
Jasper looked at Lachlan behind me, shocked and full of questions.
“What did he call you? Darling?”
“When did you get involved with him?”
I didn’t even glance at him. After eight years of marriage ending like this, to be honest, it’s quite dull.
Holding the torn wedding dress, I answered Lachlan with a face full of regret.
“The wedding dress is ruined.”
Hearing this, he just turned me towards him, carefully checking and gently comforting.
“A wedding dress can be remade. But are you alright?”
Seeing the worry in his eyes, I shook my head.
