My tone was professional.
That wiped the smile off Timothy’s face. He stared at me, trying to find any hint that said I was joking, but he was destined to be disappointed. I was not kidding around. Then, he noticed the look in my eyes, and it scared him.
There was no love in my gaze. He pursed his lips and forced a smile. “I won’t sign the papers, Yvonne. I’ve never done anything wrong to you. I won’t go through with this.”
I looked at him in disbelief. How shameless could someone be to say that with so much confidence?
I raised my voice, snapping, “You did nothing wrong to me? You had sex with me five years ago because you were drunk, but you made it look like it was my fault! When I got pregnant, you went to Willow to reminisce about your first love, while you tossed me a ring like it was trash and said, ‘Let’s get married‘ like you were deciding what to have for dinner!
“For five years of our marriage, you’d neglect me out of the blue, and you never even came to see Tabitha after she was born! You’ve barely held her ever since she was born! I’m sure you did it about less than ten times!
“You forbade her from calling you ‘Dad‘ in school, but when everyone thought you were Nathaniel’s father, you played along with them!
“When the stampede happened, you ditched Tabitha just to save the boy! And the Hello Kitty plushies… You didn’t get them for Tabitha. It’s just a ruse. You were getting them for Willow! And you claim innocence? Innocence, my foot!”
“Because you lied to me first!” My accusations didn’t make him feel ashamed of himself. Instead, he was mad.
That stunned me, and I blurted, “Lied to you? When have I ever lied to you?” –
Timothy was mad at me for not confessing to my crimes. He told me he fell in love right after he saw me at the student council interview. He was only there so he wouldn’t stand out like a sore thumb, but when he saw how confident I was at the interview, his heart fluttered.
He was never one for crowded places, but he would play house with the student council just to spend more time with me.
When he got my letter, he thought I was reciprocating his feelings, but Willow told him I had no feelings for him and that the letter was hers. I was the one who wrote it for her. She told him I only talked to him because she asked me to. She needed more info on him.
No one had ever played Timothy like that before. In a fit of rage, he said yes and started going out with Willow. He wanted to see my reaction when I saw him going out/with my best friend.
But every time I saw him, I moved out of the way out of shame. Eventually, I went abroad without telling anyone, and he thought that was proof that I played him like a fool. And that was why he dated Willow for two years. No, there was no love involved between them.
That was why Willow dumped him after graduation, After his company got into dire straits. He wasn’t sad, but then I showed up and, in his eyes, pretended like I loved him. He was sure this was another act, so he wanted to see how long I could last this time.
He watched how I would brainstorm and work myself to the bone for his company. He saw how I would drain glass after glass of alcohol just to get a deal signed. He watched on as I worked my butt off yet still smiled at him like I was a sun in the sky.
The more I smiled, the more his hatred burned. He realized I was still affecting him easily. The drunken mistake story was just an excuse to bind me to him. He acted like he regretted his actions, and I fell for it.
In haste, I told him it was okay, that it didn’t matter.
