It wasn’t until now that I remembered -yesterday, in a fit of anger, I ended up marrying Bruce.
“Honey? Why aren’t you saying anything? Are you… regretting it?”
His voice was filled with a hundred different layers of hurt.
“No,” I answered softly.
Bruce and I had grown up together. Although I wasn’t sure whether he truly loved me, at least we knew each other well.
The Pruitt family was well–matched with mine. It was a suitable union, with both sides having similar social standings.
On the other end of the phone, I could practically hear him breathe a sigh of relief. before his energy returned.

“I’ll come back tomorrow! We’ll pick out wedding rings! Even though we rushed into getting the certificate, the proposal and the wedding ceremony are a must!”
“You just focus on being the most beautiful bride. I’ll handle everything else.”
I couldn’t help but laugh softly, agreeing to his plans.
This was Bruce.
With him, everything was always organized. I only had to follow along.
And Yuri…
In my memory, he was always the one rushing away, even when I brought up the idea of getting the marriage license.
Back then, he frowned and said, “Five years… isn’t it too early to get married?”

The difference between being loved and not being loved was so painfully clear.
The entire day passed, and I heard nothing from Yuri.
Instead, his mother, Sophia Slater, couldn’t wait to call me, her tone dripping with condescension:
“You’re aware of Yuri and Willa’s situation, right? Willa’s carrying our Farrar family’s child, and we’ll never let her suffer. Yuri will definitely marry her. Thank goodness Yuri didn’t get the marriage certificate with you yesterday–clearly, that was fate!”
“I’ve always said you two weren’t right for each other. Clayton’s family has been in business for three generations, while our Farrar family has been in medicine for generations. These family backgrounds don’t match, don’t you agree?”

“Sophia, I’ve already broken up with Yuri. Please don’t contact me again unless it’s important.”
There was a brief pause on the other end, probably because she hadn’t expected me, the ever–patient one, to speak like that.
Just as Sophia opened her mouth to respond, I hung up the phone without hesitation.
Sophia immediately called several more times.
I didn’t hesitate to block her, then blocked all of Yuri’s contact details as well.
I deleted all the photos we had together, and with that, the love I’d held for him over five years vanished.
The next day, while picking out a wedding

ring at the jewelry store, I unexpectedly ran into Yuri and Willa.
He was enthusiastically picking out an expensive set of jewelry for Willa.
When he saw me trying on a ring, his expression immediately darkened.
“Freya! I told you to go home and reflect! You think you can just come here and buy a wedding ring? Do you think I’ll still marry you with this kind of attitude?”
He grabbed my hand roughly and yanked the ring off, handing it back to the sales associate.
“We won’t be buying the ring. Thank you.”
The edge of the diamond cut my finger, and blood immediately began to flow.
The sales associate hurriedly moved to treat the wound, but Yuri coldly stopped her.

“It’s just a small injury, no need to bother.”
I ignored him.
Wiping away the blood, I said to the associate, “Please exchange this for another ring.”
Yuri grabbed my wrist, his voice a growl: “Did I not make myself clear enough? You are not buying a ring today!”
Around us, the other customers began whispering.
“That pregnant woman must be his wife, right? This mistress is so bold, coming here to pick out wedding rings in front of everyone.”
“How shameless. She’s the other woman but still wants a title. Of course, the man’s furious with her.”
Willa, seeing this, pretended to mediate.

“Freya, stop making a scene. I feel embarrassed for you with so many people watching. How about I give you the ring Yuri just bought for me? See if you like it?”
The sales associate also tried to convince
- me.
“Ma’am, maybe you shouldn’t buy it today… With this scene, we can’t conduct business properly.”
Yuri’s grip tightened, and it looked like he was going to forcefully drag me out.
I yanked my arm free.
“Yuri, what does it matter to you if I buy a wedding ring? Stop sticking your nose in my business!”
“It’s none of my business? Fine, I’m officially calling off the engagement. You’ll never need a wedding ring again!”

With that, he shoved me hard.
As I stumbled, about to fall, a pair of hands steadied me.
Bruce’s voice rang in my ears:
“Honey, I’m sorry I’m late.”
“Honey?”
Yuri’s eyes locked onto Bruce’s hand on my arm, his voice rising sharply.
“Freya! You’d better explain what’s going on here!”
