Liam’s face twisted in anger and humiliation as he snapped, “Jessica grew up with nothing. She just wanted to experience the joy of a theme park for once. It’s not like it changes the fact that Fantasyland belongs to you!”
“Why must you be so unforgiving? Fine! A month from now, we’ll announce our engagement at your birthday party. Will that satisfy you?”
I let out a cold laugh, incredulous at his air of martyrdom. Where did he even get the nerve to say something like that?
But of course, everyone else rushed to defend Liam.
“Bro, don’t do this to yourself. That venomous woman, Eleanor? Marrying her would be worse than marrying a dog!”
“Eleanor, you must be thrilled. You finally got what you wanted, didn’t you?!”

Jessica burst into tears, her sobs streaming like rain. “Liam… don’t do this! I’m not worth sacrificing your happiness! This is all my fault–I’ll get on my knees and beg Eleanor if that’s what it takes. From now on, I’ll do whatever she says…”
I looked at the four of them, so bonded in mutual affection, and felt bitterness twist inside me. “I never agreed to an engagement with you,” I said.
Liam looked at me in disbelief. Zachary and Ryan immediately took a step back, as if terrified I might choose one of them instead.
Their eagerness to avoid me stung more than I cared to admit. I blinked against the sharp prick of tears and turned to leave.
But Jessica suddenly rushed in front of me, blocking my way. Without a word, she dropped to her knees and started banging her forehead against the ground.

Then she looked up at me, eyes brimming with tears. “Eleanor, please! Don’t take it out on them. This is all my fault. Their families‘ companies still rely on the Windsor Family’s support. I beg you, don’t report them to Mr. Windsor. If you’re angry, be angry at me!”
With that, she slapped herself hard across the face. “It’s all my fault. I’m the one to blame!”
Liam pulled her into his arms, his expression. twisted with anguish as he glared at me. “Eleanor, playing hard to get won’t work on me. If you have a problem, bring it to me. What’s the point of tormenting Jessica?”
“This is all just a ploy to get Mr. Windsor involved, isn’t it? So you can ruin Jessica’s future!”
I looked Liam dead in the eye, my voice cool. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. But one thing you can be sure of–1, Eleanor Windsor, will never choose you as my fiancé.”

I thought that would be the end of it. I thought Liam would walk away with some shred of dignity.
Instead, he stormed in front of me again, livid. “You won’t choose me? Then who? Zachary? Ryan?”
“Zachary wants to dedicate himself to scientific research. Ryan is preparing to study abroad. Eleanor, you’ve already held me back enough–do you really want to ruin them, too?”
Then, with a defeated shrug, he muttered, “Fine. I’ll marry you. Just leave Jessica and the others out of it. Alright?”
He said it like it was the ultimate humiliation, like marrying me was the worst possible
outcome.
I looked at him and said evenly, “Don’t worry. You’ll get your wish.“
