#Chapter 5
Vincent laughed.
“Well, if it isn’t Mr. Blackwood, the man who’s always been indifferent to worldly affairs. Who would have thought that my engagement to Gemma would bring you out of hiding? What’s this? After all your prayers, have you mistaken my fiancée for your wife? Everyone knows that Gemma only loves me, and she’s been chasing after me since she was little, wanting to marry me.”
I was standing behind Cyrus, only half–visible.
“Vincent, open your eyes and see, this is the engagement party of Cyrus and me!”
He turned to follow my finger, and before he could see the names on the sign, his eyes widened as he noticed our parents stepping out.
My parents, who had always been friendly toward him before I chose my marriage partner, now looked at him with disdain and smiled warmly at Cyrus.
“Cyrus, Gemma can be a bit temperamental. Please take good care of her.”
“Don’t worry, Gemma and I get along very well. I’ll never let her suffer.”
Cyrus’s calm and gentle demeanor only fueled Vincent’s frustration. He raised his voice sharply.
“I’m your son–in–law!”
My father ignored him and, stepping past, asked me, “What happened just now?”
I pointed a finger. “Yesterday, they locked me in the Sterling Family villa, forced me to kneel, made me serve Vincent’s mother, and even tried to make me sign an agreement giving them half of our family’s assets. Today, she showed everyone the video of me kneeling, trying to ruin the reputation of us.”
My father cast a cold glance, and immediately the bodyguards snatched the phone from Vincent’s hand.
Everyone present froze, quickly stepping back as the reporters cameras nearly crashed into them.
“What’s going on? Miss Winslow was supposed to marry Mr. Sterling, but now it says she’s marrying Mr. Blackwood?”
Vincent finally saw the names on the wall. Gemma Winslow&Cyrus Blackwood.
“So Miss Winslow’s intended marriage partner was never Mr. Sterling? Was Mr. Sterling delusional all along?”
I heard him gasp and instinctively try to grab me, but Cyrus stepped in front of me.
“Restrain yourself.“)
“No….no way! You were supposed to marry me!”
Eleanor Sterling was equally stunned, and Alistair Sterling’s back bent, as he nervously shook his head. “No…”
After watching the video, my father slammed it angrily to the ground.
“How dare you make my precious daughter kneel before you! You’ve gone too far! To all the gentlemen here, listen closely: anyone who dares to cooperate with The Sterling Family from now on will be disrespecting me!”
Alistair and Eleanor’s faces drained of color.

Cyrus took my hand and led me inside.
Vincent tried to grab me, but Sylvia pulled him back.
“Vincent, you don’t need to marry her anymore. Why bother going in? We can get married now!”
“Get lost! A daughter of a nouveau riche like you thinks she can marry me? You should know your place!”
He shoved Sylvia aside, and before I could react, he had reached me.

‘Gemma, this has to be a misunderstanding, right? You’ve always loved me. How could you marry him?”
I felt the eyes of everyone on me and realized that some things had to be resolved once and for all.
So I spoke, each word clear and resolute:
“Vincent, I’ve never loved you. It’s your arrogance that made you think I would marry you. In fact, even if I die, I will never marry you!”
With that, I linked my arm with Cyrus’s, revealing the jade cufflinks on his sleeve.
It had his initials—CY
-CY.
Vincent’s pupils contracted, and he trembled violently.
