Chapter25
Jayvion’s car had just exited the parking garage when it got stuck in gridlocked traffic.
Emanuel turned back. “Mr. Wyatt, there’s been an accident ahead. All lanes are blocked.”
Jayvion checked his watch, expressionless. “Clear a path. Tell the hospital to keep Wren Serrano.”
“Yes, sir!”
All eight lanes of the main thoroughfare in Kraitburgh’s main central business district were at a complete standstill, with vehicles lined up bumper–to–bumper.
Suddenly, a sharp, blaring siren pierced the air as two motorcycles sped through, forcing cars in the far–right lane to swerve aside.
Right behind them, a sleek, understated Maybach glided through the opening. The other drivers could only watch in resentful silence.
That license plate meant trouble no one dared challenge.

Yesenia lingered at the hospital room doorway, observing the scene inside.
Belinda was slicing apples. Vicente held a water glass. Nearby, Jennifer was wiping Sylvia’s legs…
What a heartwarming display of familial devotion.

288 Vouchers
Just yesterday, Sylvia had been publicly exposed for blatant plagiarism, humiliating the Mosley family in front of the nation.
Yet here they were, having forgiven her within hours.
Even for something as minor as fainting, the entire family had rushed to her side, personally attending to her every need.
Yesenia remembered her past life when she had been humiliated at her own birthday banquet, the Mosleys had confined her to the estate, berating her mercilessly.
When she’d donated a kidney and lay at her weakest, only a nurse had been there when she woke. The Mosleys had “made time” for brief visits once every few days.
Later, after being discharged, she’d learned through Sylvia’s “casual” remarks that the family had been too occupied with fetching tea, pouring water, and peeling fruit for Sylvia to visit her.
The scene she’d never witnessed in her past life now played out before her. How ironic.
Belinda and the others stood as a crowd of people suddenly flooded into the room. “Dr. Chaney, what’s going on?”
“Mrs. Mosley,” Roderick began, “allow me to introduce Ms. Wren Serrano, the direct protege of renowned physician Mr. Leandro Pratt. She’s interested in collaborating with Ms. Mosley on a medical project.”
The room erupted in gasps.
The famous doctor was here?
Sylvia’s face flushed with flustered delight as her gaze darted to the mysterious figure at the center of the group.

The woman was entirely covered except for her amber eyes, which now gazed at her, exuding a sense of cold, detached superiority.
A sudden thought struck Sylvia: those eyes reminded her of Yesenia’s.
She immediately dismissed the thought.
How could she compare that trash Yesenia to this distinguished visitor?
“Wren Serrano?” Vicente was the first to voice skepticism, staring at
Yesenia.

Roderick quickly interjected, “Mr. Mosley, this is indeed Ms. Serrano. She just saved three lives in our emergency room.”
A cold sweat broke down Roderick’s back at the near–disaster.
With Roderick’s approval, the group finally relaxed.
Belinda stepped forward, taking Yesenia’s gloved hands. “I always imagined Ms. Serrano would be elderly. What an accomplished young woman! My son Gilberto has been hoping to collaborate with you, but you refused due to some misunderstanding Are you here today to…”
Yesenia’s voice emerged raspy. “An urgent matter brought me. We can discuss future opportunities with your son another time.”
She paused, her gaze shifting to Sylvia. Roderick tactfully explained the whole situation.
Before the Mosley family could even respond, Jennifer blurted out, “Absolutely not!”
All eyes turned to her. Jennifer hastily added, “Sylvia’s always been delicate, and it’s not like we’re short on money. How could we risk her with unproven technology?”

Jennifer’s heart pounded violently.
She couldn’t allow Sylvia to undergo this experiment.
She wasn’t actually sick. The kidney swap had only ever been about stealing Yesenia’s fortune!
“She’s right.” Belinda nodded in agreement. “Why not give this opportunity to a patient who actually needs it?”
The unspoken implication was clear: let Yesenia experiment on poor people who couldn’t afford treatment.
Behind her mask, Yesenia’s lips curled in a sneer. “This trial poses no health risks. Currently, we don’t have a better candidate than Ms. Sylvia in Kraitburgh. Since you’re seeking a kidney donor anyway, why not try it? Doesn’t Ms. Mosley want to recover sooner?”
She lowered her voice meaningfully. “If all goes well, I could wrap this up ahead of schedule. That means my collaboration with Gilberto could move forward sooner.”
Belinda had been resistant at first, but now, hesitation flickered across
her face.
Gilberto lived for medicine. When he’d first heard about potentially working with Wren, he’d been more excited than getting into his dream school, staying up nights preparing reports.
After the collaboration fell through, he’d locked himself in his lab for days. Belinda ached for her son.
Seeing Belinda’s hesitation, Sylvia silently cursed this famous doctor’s scheming while putting on a pitiful expression. “Mom, if agreeing to Ms. Serrano’s experiment means Gilberto gets his collaboration, I’m willing to do this for him.”

Belinda felt a wave of relief, but then Sylvia continued, “I’d be happier than anyone to help Gilberto, but he always says medical decisions require extreme caution. Even small oversights can lead to irreversible consequences…”
་་
She bit her lip. “Are you absolutely certain, Ms. Serrano, that I’m the right candidate for this trial? Won’t there be … complications?”
Yesenia’s lips curved. She saw through the act.
“Rest assured, Ms. Mosley, I don’t take risks with lives. Let’s have you undergo a full evaluation downstairs to confirm your eligibility.”
Nathan, silent until now, cut in, “I’ll personally oversee Ms. Mosley’s examination.”
Sylvia nodded, feigning relief. “Thank you, Dr. Wilcox.”
Belinda clutched Sylvia’s hand. “Sylvia, you’re so considerate of Gilberto. It warms my heart.”
“We’re family, Mom,” Sylvia smiled sweetly. “It’s only natural.”
Yesenia turned to leave. Family? What a joke.
After changing clothes, Sylvia entered the examination room obediently.
Nathan blocked Yesenia at the door. “No outsiders. You’re not a staff member here. Surely you know the protocol, Ms. Serrano?”
“Sure,” Yesenia replied with a light smile.
As the heavy door swung shut, her pleasant expression vanished.
She moved to the corner and sat down, retrieving her laptop from the bag.

With a few keystrokes, the examination feed appeared onscreen, a perfect view of the equipment’s display.
Sylvia’s unedited testing process unfolded in real time before her.

As the kidney scan materialized on the screen, Yesenia’s eyes narrowed slightly.

In the hospital parking lot, the Maybach glided to a stop.
A mechanized wheelchair descended the ramp, bearing Jayvion’s impassive figure. Emanuel followed, saying, “Ms. Serrano is currently at the Nephrology Department.
