Chapter 8 Engagement Party
At the end of the month, Humphrey and Willette’s engagement party went ahead as planned.
The event drew a lot of big names from the city. Willette, dressed in a high–end gown, mingled among the guests like a princess surrounded by stars.
Humphrey’s buddies couldn’t help but admire.
“Congrats, bro! Finally, you and Willette are tying the knot!”
“Back in school, you two were the model couple. If it weren’t for Joey’s meddling, you wouldn’t have been apart for so long.”
“Speaking of Joey, wonder how she’s doing now?”
“She got a cool 100 million breakup fee from Humphrey. Must be living it up abroad. Humphrey’s too soft–hearted…”
Hearing Joey’s name, Humphrey frowned.\
After that kidnapping incident, Joey jetted off overseas. Rumor had it she left because the leaked video made her too embarrassed to stay in the capital. Humphrey thought so too.
What he didn’t expect was how completely Joey vanished.
For over half a month, there was no trace of her on social media, like she’d disappeared off the face of the earth.
Seeing Humphrey lost in thought, one of his buddies teased, “Humphrey, you ain’t still got feelings for Joey, do ya?”

Humphrey snapped back to reality, his expression turning cold. “She did so many horrible things to Willette. All I feel for her is hatred. Don’t mess with me like that.”
“Yes, sure, we won’t bring it up again.”
Everyone quickly zipped their lips, not daring to ruffle Humphrey’s feathers.
Just then, Willette walked over from a distance.
She looped her arm through Humphrey’s and cooed sweetly, “Mrs. Bowen’s husband bought her a gorgeous sapphire necklace, I want one
too.”
Humphrey replied without hesitation, “My black card’s in your hands, isn’t it? If you want it, just buy it. Don’t bother asking me about these small things anymore.”
The guys around immediately started teasing, “Humphrey caught me off guard with this unexpected display of affection!”
“Willette, how exactly did you tame Humphrey? Share your tips with us!”
At the flattery, Willette’s smile deepened, her vanity immensely satisfied.
Recently, Humphrey had been spoiling her rotten.
He took her shopping for luxury goods, to Michelin–starred restaurants. and to all kinds of high–end events, trying to make up for the past two years all at once.
And she accepted it all without question, quickly getting used to her role as “Mrs. Rhodes.”

“What tips could I have? It’s just that I give my heart to Humphrey sincerely,” Willette said with a light laugh, masking the pride in her
eyes.
The engagement ceremony officially kicked off.
Before exchanging rings, the emcee on stage said with a grin, “As you all know, Mr. Rhodes and Miss Smith have been together since college. We’ve specially gathered some precious footage from their student days. Let’s all watch the big screen together…”
The guests all turned their heads toward the screen in unison.
But in the next second, the images on the screen swept through the entire venue like a storm.
“Joey, I heard you slept with Humphrey and the video went viral. Do you think such cheap tricks can keep him?
“Let me be clear: he doesn’t like you at all–not only does he not like you, he despises you!”
The moment Willette’s harsh voice rang out, the venue fell into dead silence.
Everyone realized that what was playing wasn’t precious footage but a surveillance video.
The video showed the lounge of the banquet hall. Willette and Joey were standing face to face, arguing..
When tempers flared, Willette raised her hand to strike.
Just then, Humphrey pushed the door open and walked in.
Quick–witted, Willette pulled her hand back, grabbed a cake from the table, stuffed it in her mouth, and wailed as she collapsed to the floor.

Throughout, Joey didn’t even touch a hair on her head.
Watching Willette’s flawless act of self–injury, everyone was stunned, including Humphrey.
He always thought Willette was wronged, never imagining her allergic reaction was all staged.
Before Humphrey could recover from Willette’s vicious act, the video. shifted to an even more explosive scene.
A woman with her face blurred was pinned down by several men, bottles of red chili water poured into her mouth one after another.
Ignoring her pleas, the men only laughed cruelly.
Then they tore her clothes apart, snapping one humiliating photo after
another.
Seeing the woman’s suffering, Humphrey felt her heart tightened, nearly choking him.
Though the woman’s face was blurred, he instantly recognized her as Joey.
