Chapter 10
Six months after the wedding, I found out I was pregnant.
Lucian teared up–genuinely cried.[]
But he also looked a little worried.[]
“Is it too soon?” he asked. []
“We haven’t even had time to just be us yet.“[]
“If you’re nervous-”
“I’m not,” I cut him off before he could spiral.[]
“I just think it’d be amazing to travel the world… with our baby.”
Lucian didn’t even hesitate.
He handed off company responsibilities, cleared his schedule.]
And we left.]
Just like that, we packed up and started traveling.
With a full team, of course–doctor, nanny, security.]
My mom was right.[]
When we came back, the air even felt sweeter.
Because everywhere I turned, I was surrounded by love.[]
When we landed in Switzerland, I posted a picture online.
Zoey liked it.]
We hadn’t talked in forever, but I never unfollowed her.
Then she messaged me out of nowhere:
“Jace got sentenced.“]
Sentenced?
I thought he’d just gone bankrupt.]]
Didn’t know it got that far.
Zoey said, “After the company tanked, he lost it.“]
“Thought the world owed him something.”
“He’d go after happy couples, try to break them up.”
“Real sick stuff.”
“Until one day, he picked the wrong target–some med student and his lawyer girlfriend.”
“Jace ended up seriously hurt.“[]
“The guy only got minor injuries.“[]
“And Jace got nailed with felony assault.”
That was that.
Zoey moved back to her hometown.
Got a stable job.
She never dated again.]
Said she was done with men.]
She only trusted herself now.
And honestly, I respected that.
Everything had finally come full circle.[]
A year later, we threw a party for our baby girl’s one–month milestone.[]
She was perfect–tiny, soft, and so, so loved.[]
We named her Luna.
Like the moonlight.[]
Bright, calm. beautiful.]
Her dad adores her.
I do too.
She’s got grandparents on both sides who love her like crazy.]
She was born into happiness.]]
And as long as she doesn’t fall for some broke loser when she grows up.
She’s set for life.
To make sure of that, I even arranged a little “playdate fiance” for her.[]
Nothing official. Just… a head start.[]
Watching her toddle around the yard with that little boy-[]
My mom laughed out of nowhere.]]
“You know,” she said, “you and Lucian were childhood friends too. You just forgot.”
“What?”
I stared at her, totally thrown.]
Me and Lucian?
We only met at the airport, didn’t we?
She pulled out an old photo album.
Inside were snapshots of my childhood.

“Hey did we know each other when we were kids?“]
I leaned into his chest, whispering[]
He paused, surprised I figured it out.]]
Then slowly ran his hand over my hair.
“You were young. It’s normal not to remember.”
I opened the old album and showed him.]
There were photos from elementary school, middle school, high school]
Then it stopped–right when I started dating Jace.[]

Lucian looked nervous.
Like his old crush had just been exposed.[]
All those years of silence.]]
But I just smiled.
“This whole house? I know it like the back of my hand.“[]
I kissed him gently.]
“Thank you for loving me.”

“No,” he whispered, returning the kiss.
