Chapter 7
When she heard what I said, a flash of resentment crossed Stephanie’s eyes.

“What’s it to you? You’re just a slut! Howard drinks himself into a stupor at home every day because of you. He even refuses to see eye to eye with me!”
I didn’t get angry. Instead, I gave a cold laugh. “Do I need to remind you who was actually engaged to Howard first?”
Stephanie shouted in frustration, “So what? Howard still dumped you and married me in the end!”
I said impatiently, “I’m already married and have no interest in getting involved in your affairs. But bullying a child like this is going too far.”
Hearing the whispers from the guests around us, a flash of hatred crossed Stephanie’s face. She secretly pinched Xavier and threatened him in a low voice, “Tell everyone you fell and hurt yourself.”
Xavier’s face turned pale with pain, but he didn’t dare to resist. He could only say quietly, “I accidentally fell. It has nothing to do with Stephanie.”
Stephanie thought her scheme was flawless, but she didn’t realize everyone could see through her act.
“Ms. Duncan is so heartless! It sounds like she’s the mistress, and she’s abusing that little boy.”
“No wonder Mr. Fitzgerald wants to separate from her. If it were me,

I wouldn’t dare marry such a vicious woman either.”

Hearing these comments, Stephanie completely panicked. She tried to defend herself, “Howard and I grew up together! Ellie is the mistress!”
Burning with anger, I slapped her hard across the face and said, “You abandoned Howard and Xavier to go abroad during Christmas, and I only met him and got engaged to him after that. Now that you see Howard making a comeback, you want him back, is that it? How dare you say such things?”
Stephanie held her cheek and tried to hit me back.
However, her family didn’t want her to embarrass herself further, so they dragged her away.
Unable to break free, she continued to curse at me as she was led away. “It’s all because of you, you bitch! If it weren’t for you, Howard would still love me!”
Everyone in the ballroom looked extremely curious. After a while, the ballroom became lively again, as if nothing had happened.
I crouched down and looked at Xavier, who was still trembling, and said softly, “You should go find Howard. I can only help you this once because I’m married to another man now. We won’t be in contact with each other anymore.”
After saying this, I turned and walked back into the ballroom, but I could feel Xavier staring intently at my back, his face full of regret.
At that moment, the Fitzgerald family’s security guards, who had

arrived late, escorted Xavier away.

That night, when Noah learned about the incident at the party, he not only comforted me gently but also deliberately put pressure on the Duncan family.
Just when I thought everything was over, I received a text message from Howard: [Come to Serena Club. I’ll show you Noah’s true colors.]
Looking at the screen, I suddenly felt uneasy.
Before we got married, Noah was indeed a well–known playboy, and his scandalous affairs would occasionally make headlines.
After getting to know him, I discovered he wasn’t the person rumors made him out to be.
However, Howard’s text message still made me very anxious.
Noah had told me he was meeting friends tonight, and unusually, he hadn’t taken me along.
Since we got married, he had spent every day with me, unwilling to be apart.
I had a terrible suspicion in my heart, but I decided to go and see for myself.
As soon as I arrived at Serena Club, I saw Howard leaning against the entrance, waiting.
I noticed that the wounds on his face had healed, and he still looked

handsome, though more haggard than before.

When he saw me, his dull eyes suddenly brightened. He greeted me excitedly, “Ellie, you finally came.”
