Chapter 129
Xander POV
Something isn’t right. When she left the room, it was like I was waking up, and I realised how lost in her I had become. I thought that it was over, or at least that I could remind myself not to do it.
Only it failed, I was standing talking to Kellan, sensed her in the room, and immediately began walking toward her.
“Is there an issue?” Killian asks.
“I’m not sure, things are weird,” I say quietly.
“Weird how. You just walked toward Serafine, and she walked out.”
Turning, I look at him. “If I go near her again, try to keep me away,” I say.
“What? Why?”
“Because something is wrong, whenever she’s in the room, I forget everything and my only focus is her.”
Sounds like normal mate things.”
Groaning, I rub my face. “No, Killian, it isn’t. I was trying to keep her in the bedroom, trying to put off leaving. Even when she told me no, I kept going toward her. And before you say heat, or rut, no, it feels more like something is making us pull together to stop us doing anything else.”
Could it be the place you’re going?”
“I don’t know if it’s the place causing it, or something else that others have caused.”
I don’t hear the door, only sense her, and I turn instantly.
“Alpha,” Killian warns, and my body goes to move toward her, but I see Eryx, and

“Is it that bad?”
“Eryx is a focus point; without that, I don’t think I would still be standing here.”
“Okay, so let’s plan everything. Who is going into the hollows with you?”
“We need to leave half the guard behind, and the rest follow, but at a distance. We’ve got no

Killian chuckles. “But we are.”

I know he’s right, we are ready for battle, but we can’t make that known when it might not be anything bad. “Just make sure everyone knows, calm, no rushed movements, and no one reacts to anything without my order. I don’t care if they are getting attacked; they stand down and don’t retaliate.”
“You honestly expect something to be there?”
“No, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be. Threadborns are all and Veyrathi were born?” I ask.

why wouldn’t they be in the place that is meant to be where the Threadborn
He hums and nods. “Agree, I’ll make sure they are aware. Alpha Silverfur has said he will ensure we keep our space while here, but he does want to discuss something with you before we travel.”
Sighing, I nod. “Let’s go do that now, then.” I turn and look at Serafine. I need to get close to her, I need to explain. I keep my focus on Eryx as I walk

“I need to speak with Alpha Silverfur. We will leave when I return,” I grit out.
Nodding, she smiles. “Understood.”
I don’t hesitate, I turn and walk out with Killian following. Getting to the other side of the pack house, Edward Silverfur is standing, waiting. His gaze is fixed outside, and he looks lost in thought.
Alphia Silverfur,” I say.
Turning, he gestures for me to walk to the window. I move slowly and follow him. As I get there, I look out and wait. He says nothing, though, “You wanted to talk?” I ask.

I did. Alpha Xander, our crops were black and dead, since you came, with your mate and child, they seem to have revived.
I look again, and sure enough, the crops are fine, so this confirms it; whatever it is, it’s not Serafine or Eryx killing the crops.
“Now I have the issue, it’s not sustainable for me to harvest so much so quickly, but if they die when you leave, then what choice do I have? Besides keeping your mate and child here.”
I growl and step closer.
He holds up his hand and chuckles. “I won’t, however, there is a lot more to consider now, because if she or your child is the answer, those who wanted her dead aren’t just the issue. Now everyone will want them to survive.”
I know that he’s right; if the only way to have their crops survive is to have Serafine or Eryx there, it’s going to become a war. “Can we not mention
this?” I ask.
“Xander, my pack knows you were visiting, everyone knows that the crops are back, and there’s no way I can force everyone in my pack to not spread gossip. What I can do is place a hold on anyone leaving for a few days to give you a chance to finish your work and get back to your pack.”
Sighing, I nod. “Thank you.”
“No, thank you.” He turns and looks at me. Since the crops died and everyone suspected your mate was the cause, it was in my mind that we would have to go to war with you. I’m grateful we don’t, as we can’t stand against you and survive.”
I chuckle.
“More people are fearful after you killed a rogue on the way here without fully shifting, just so you’re aware.”
“Good, then maybe they won’t come for my mate and son,” I say.
“You can hope, my advice, figure out what it is about them that revives crops or keeps them alive. Packs are going to start demanding answers and wanting to know how it’s possible.”
Sighing, I nod. “I will, thank you. Also, do you have anyone here who practices magic?” I ask.
He considers it and shakes his head. “No, we tend to accept it.”
“But you gave us space to stay here despite the magic?” I ask.
“I did say that going to war with you would end in our death, I would rather have you as an alliance than an enemy, so I forgot my rules and gave
you confirmation.”
He turns and walks away, sighing. I look at Killian. “Let’s get to Nyvarras Hollow,”
I say.
