Chapter 41
Harrison’s hand rested lightly on Gwyneth’s waist, and he relaxed visibly when the transfer confirmation came through. This is settled. I’m taking my wife home now.”
“Uh… right.” Quentin’s heart ached as Harrison walked away with Gwyneth, his arm still around her.
As they settled into the car, Harrison’s hand accidentally brushed against Gwyneth’s arm, and she let out a soft gasp. He quickly caught her wrist. turning it over to reveal a patch of red and swollen skin.
“Did this happen in the fire at the memorial hall! Why
didn’t you get
it checked out?” he said, his eyes flickering with a hint of worry
Gwyneth blinked, taken aback. “How did you know about the fire?” She immediately regretted the question. This was Harrison Lopez–was there anything in Joracity he didn’t know about!
“We’re going to the hospital, Harrison said, his grip firm but gentle as he avoided the tender spoi
Gwyneth had been so preoccupied with arranging her mother’s photo that she’d ignored her own injury. Then Zachary’s drama had completely slipped her mind.
Seeing Harrison’s stern look, she waved her uninjured hand. “It’s just a minor burn. The skin isn’t broken. I’ll put some cream on it when we get home.”
“Hospital Now,” Harrison insisted.
The driver floored the gas, and they sped off toward the hospital.
Gwyneth, knowing she couldn’t argue, followed Harrison reluctantly. While he went to get medicine, she sat alone on a bench in the hallway. examining her injury.
Just then, Zachary and Bella emerged from a nearby room. Bella clung to Zachary’s arm. Just a bit of chest discomfort, she murmured. I shouldn’t have dragged you here, Zachary,”
“At least the tests came back clear,” Zachary replied gently. He glanced up and locked eyes with Gwyneth, then noticed her swollen arm. Without thinking, he pulled away from Bella and walked over to Gwyneth
“Your wounds haven’t been treated yet?” Zachary’s face clouded with worry as he looked at the redness on her arm and the cut on her forehead. He started to bend down, instinctively wanting to blow on her injuries like he used to, hoping it would make them feel better.
But Gwyneth quickly turned her head away, shielding her forehead. I don’t need that kind of comfort anymore,” she said, her voice firm
“Here, let me put a bandage on it,” Zachary insisted, pulling a bandage from his pocket, Bur Gwyneth dodged his hand again
Zachary’s hand hung awkwardly in mid–air. “Did the Jenkins family do this to you?” he asked, his voice tinged with frustration
“None of your business. Worry about your own family,” Gwyneth replied coldly, turning her face away, unwilling to engage further.
Zachary’s expression softened. He already knew the answer. Seeing her injury and understanding the situation at home, his heart ached even more. “Gwennie, can you give one another chance? If you come back to me, I promise I’ll protect you. The Jenkins family won’t hurt you again.”
He spoke with a sincerity that used to melt Gwyneth’s heart. But this time, she simply stood up and walked away!
Zachary called out, taking a step forward, ‘Gwennic, just one more
“No,” Gwyneth said firmly, continuing to walk away.
Bella quickly grabbed Zachary’s arm, holding him back.
As Gwyneth stepped into the lobby, she saw Harrison with a bottle of pills in hand.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, his tone tinged with irritation.
Gwyneth didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. “I just hate than antiseptic smell,” she said with a shrug.
Harrison paused, noticing how she avoided his gaze. He didn’t push it further. “Fine. Let’s get you home”
