Chapter 45
Gwyneth turned before walking away.
I’ll go. But let’s get one thing straight–Zachary isn’t someone to cross, either,
I’m cutting ties with them for good” With that, she strode
“You said something improper in from of everyone today. If this deal falls through out, her heels striking the floor in sharp, angry clicks.
Quentin called after her. “There’s a gift from the Jenkins family at reception for Mr. Lopez. After the hospital, drop it off at the Lopez Group and go over the project details while you’re at it-
Gwyneth bristled at the “while you’re at it, as if it were just some trivial errand. The door slammed behind her with enough force to rattle the walls, cuiting Quentin off mid–sentence.
Melanie crossed her arms with a huff. “Dad, did you hear!
ar how she spoke to you! No respect whatsoever!”
Quentin just scoffed. Ignore her. Focus on winning over Adrian. Once the new leadership steps in, we won’t have to put up with her tantrums anymore.”
Outside, Zachary was tending to Bella when the noise from inside made him glance up. He’d come to patch things up with Gwyneth–no way was he letting this deal fall apart now. “Gwennie,” he called gently. “I’ll go to the hospital first. Later, we can
I’m sorry, Gwyneth. I shouldn’t have gotten sick right now,” Bella said, feigning guilt. “I messed up your deal with Zachary. He’s just… too worried
about me.
“Wow, you can still talk this much during an asthma attack? That’s a medical miracle,” Gwyneth said, her voice thick with sarcasm. She almost felt like applauding Bella’s performance..
Zachary frowned, but before he could speak, Gwyneth cut in. “You seem fine. I’m not wasting time going to the hospital. I’ve got things to do” Without another word, she turned and walked away.
Zachary moved to follow, but Bella grabbed his sleeve. “I can’t breathe… Zachary, please…
“Bella!” Zachary scooped her up and bolted for the elevators.
Inside the elevator, Gwyneth watched as Zachary sprinted toward her, Bella cradled in his arms.
Hold the door Bella’s- he shouted.
Without hesitation, Gwyneth pressed the close button. The doors slid shut, and the elevator began its descent.
Flora was startled, “Ms. Jenkins, that woman looked like she was in an emergency.”
“Relax. Zachary’s got her, Gwyneth replied.
Bella had always used her asthma as an excuse–Gwyneth had known that back when she’d paid for her treatment
She’d even looked up the gymptoms, so Bella’s act was obvious to her. But Zachary, blinded by love, never saw through it
Gwyneth shook her head. ‘Of course,’ she thought bitterly. He always loved her more than he could ever love me
Gwyneth’s breath came faster, but before Flora could say another word, the elevator doors opened. Gwyneth stepped out, her composure flawless
once inore.
“You handle things here, she told Flora, snatching her things from the reception desk before striding off toward the Lopez Group.
Gwyneth stepped into the Lopez Group headquarters and headed straight for the front desk.
When the receptionist heard why Gwyneth was there, he gave an apologetic shrug. “Sorry, but no appointment means no entry. You can sign in first, though”
Gwyneth wasn’t surprised. She pulled out her phone, considering whether to text Harrison.
