Chapter 46
Before she could make the decision, Melanie’s macking voice cut through the air. “Well, well Can’t you get inside!”
Gwyneth froze and in that moment, the message was sent. She turned to see Melanie striding toward her in a fitted black–and–red dress and heels
Melanie barely glanced at the receptionist as she said, To Melanie Jenkins.
“Oh. Ms. Jenkins, Mr. Lopez is expecting you, Right this way, please. The receptionist smiled and quickly summoned an escort.
Melanie tilted her chin, a smirk playing on her lips as she shot Gwyneth a cold glance. “Looks like even the Lopez family doesn’t want you around. Gwyneth. Can’t even get through the door? And here I am, an outsider, outshining you”
Gwyneth ignored Melanie’s jab, and she couldn’t care less about whatever was going on between Melanie and Adrian. Without looking back, she headed straight for the lounge, feeling Melanie’s glare burning into her back.
“Keep playing the ice queen, Gwyneth, Melanie sneered. “See how long you’ll be stuck waiting down here. I’m going up first—”
“Ms. Jenkins Clyde’s voice called from the elevator bank
Melanie immediately lifted her chin. That’s me. Take me up now,” she demanded.
“Sorry, wrong person,” Clyde said flatly as he walked right past her.
His face brightened when he saw Gwyneth. “Ms. Jenkins, we weren’t expecting you today,” he said, his tone softening. “Next time, just give me a call. I’ll send someone right down.”
“It’s fine. Is Mr. Lopez available?” Gwyneth kept her tone light
“He’s in a meeting, but he asked me to bring you up.” Clyde gestured toward the security gates. “This way, please,” he said, leading her to the CEO’s private elevator.
Melanie’s face flushed with rage. She whirled on the receptionist. “Well! Are you letting me in or not?
Clyde gave a respectful nod as he escorted Gwyneth into the elevator. Before the doors closed, he shot the receptionist a cold look. “Stop letting Mrangers wander in
The receptionist stiffened and immediately blocked Melanie’s way. “Mr. Harrison Lopez’s assistant was very clear. Maybe you’ll have to call Mr.. Adrian Lopez directly”
Melanie scowled and dialed Adrian, only to get a busy signal. That bitch, she muttered. Somehow, whenever Gwyneth was involved, things never went her way.
This was Gwyneth’s second time in Harrison’s office. The first visit had ended with her entering a marriage of convenience with the man she barely knew. Now she was here by choice–though not without her own motives.
“Mr. Lopez needs a few more minutes, Clyde said, collecting documents from the waiting staff before stepping out
As the door shut, Gwyneth was left alone in the most secure office of the Lopez Group. Harrison’s trust in her was absolute.
Gwyneth moved
to the windows, absently gazing at the city stretching below. Her attention drifted to the desk where a silver framed photograph glinted in the afternoon light–their wedding photo.
Gwyneth and Harrison wore identical blank expressions in their wedding photo, only mustering smiles when the photographer prompted them.
The framed wedding photo stood in stark contrast to the office’s strictly professional atmosphere.
Who puts wedding photos at work? Gwyneth stared at the framed picture. People only display things they actually like looking at. But Harrison! He’d never keep this here unless it was for show. Right, this is for when the Lopezes visit
Garyleth was studying the photograph when the door groaned open.
