Chapter 95
Gwyneth closed the ride–hailing app and, without a backward glance, slipped into Harrison’s car.
Zachary finally snapped out of his daze and moved to block Gwyneth’s path, desperate to talk things through. But Harrison shot him an icy glare. “If this is about business,” he said coldly, “keep it professional. Don’t approach her in private again.”
With that, Harrison rolled up the window, completely cutting off Zachary’s anxious gaze. The car smoothly pulled away from the estate, heading toward the bustling city center.
The car fell silent. Only then did Gwyneth belatedly turn her head. “Mr. Lopez, what brings you to the Jenkins residence at this hour!”
“I wasn’t just passing by,” Harrison said sternly, half his face shrouded in the car’s shadows, only his deep–ser eyes reflecting Gwyneth’s image. “T came specifically for you.”
Gwyneth arched an eyebrow. “Oh? Did something happen?”
“Could it be that Harrison already knows Adrian helped Zachary secure the project, and that the Jenkins family plans to collaborate with Zachary? Gwyneth wondered.
So Harrison came all this way just to keep me in line as his ally, Gwyneth mused, her gaze turning serious.
Harrison replied. Diana called the Lopez family, claiming you’ve become arrogant since marrying me..
“She also accused you of making Quentin so angry that he was hospitalized, showing utter disrespect to your father. They were powerless to do anything about it, so they actually thought of asking my grandpa to teach you a lesson.”
Gwyneth’s eyes dimmed. ‘Diana and Quentin really never stop causing drama. They can’t do anything family to rein me in. But Harrison actually came, she thought.”
g to me, yet they actually expect the Lopez
Gwyneth lifted her eyes, her gaze cold and utterly emotionless. So, Mr. Lopez, are you here to lay into me?”
Harrison met her distant gaze, his thin lips parting slightly. Grandpa sent me to check on you.” He paused. “And he does want me to bring you back to the Lopez manor.”
Since even. Harrison dared not defy Liam’s orders, as his wife, Gwyneth certainly had no right to refuse.
The Jenkins family is such stick–in–the–muds in Joracity, and the Lopez family has its own strict code of conduct, too, Gwyneth thought anxiously. I really have no idea how they’ll punish me for showing disrespect toward elders.
At this thought, Gwyneth slowly lowered her head, falling silent.
Harrison reached out and gently patted Gwyneth on the shoulder. But you did nothing wrong
He went on, “Quentin’s greed and shady tactics finally backfired. His failed schemes must’ve pissed him off so much that he ended up in the hospital. He brought this on himself;
“Gwyneth, I know you won’t defy reason or disrespect family. It’s all Quentin’s fault.” Harrison’s comforting pat on Gwyneth’s shoulder lasted only a brief moment
Gwyneth shot him a sidelong glance and asked, “Diana wouldn’t have told you the full story.”
Gwyneth clenched her lists, perplexed. Why would he still trust me unconditionally? she wondered
Harrison withdrew his hand and said lightly. “I don’t know what happened, but I trust you.” He didn’t know the full story, but he knew Gwyneth
well.
Beside him, Gwyneil felt a comforting warmth envelop her, as if the whole car had grown cozy. ‘So this is what it feels like to be trusted without question, she thought, her heart swelling. In a soft whisper, she said, “Thank you.”
Harrison tilted his head slightly and stole a glance at her. The rest of the ride passed in comfortable silence.
The car soon pulled up at the Lopez manor. The mansion was ablaze with lights, and several servants stood attentively at the entrance, awaiting their arrival.
Gwyneth and Harrison walked side by side toward the entrance. Before opening the door, Harrison noticed her stiffened posture. “Are you
nervous” he asked.

Harrison fought back a smile as he opened the door for her. “It won’t,” he replied, his voice calm and steady, so reassuring that Gwyneth couldn’t help but feel safe.
