Chapter 96
Liam sat upright on the sofa, his eyes half–closed, making his emotions unreadable. Seeing the elderly man resting, Gwyneth instinctively softened her footsteps.
As she approached, Liam seemed to sense it and opened his eyes. Those timeworn eyes turned toward Gwennie with deliberate slowness. “Gwennie, are you hum?” he asked gently, concern in his voice.
“Huh?” Gwyneth was taken aback. She thought Liam would scold her for being disrespectful to elders, but instead, his first concern was for her well- being.
Upon noticing her surprise, Liam’s gaze softened. “I heard you drove your father to the hospital, and I also made sure to get the full story.”
“Your father chose to host those guests. That was his decision. But to demand you play the gracious hostess without giving you any notice, and then, using your so–called rudeness as an excuse to discipline you publicly at the dinner table? That’s completely unacceptable.”
Liam continued. The wealth and influence of a family were meant to protect its own. the selfish interests of outsiders over his daughter and punished you in public. He was wrong, not you.”

His voice grew softer as he laid everything out clearly. Gwyneth stood frozen in a daze, her nose stinging as a wave of bittersweet emotion welled up inside her.
Diana hates me the most. When she called Mr. Lopez, she must have made up stories and twisted everything me and make me look bad

Mr. Lopez still managed to sift out fragments of the truth and spoke up in my defense, she wondered. Gwyneth’s nose tinged faintly red.
Just then, Liam’s voice came again. “Your dad is so unjust. Come here, Gwennie. Let me see how badly he has hurt you.”
“I’m fine.” Gwyneth replied softly, following closely behind as she made her way to Liam and sat down in front of him. She obediently extended her wrist for Liam to examine.
Liam was getting on in years, and his eyesight wasn’t as sharp as before. Squinting, he held Gwyneth’s hand and carefully examined her inch by inch, murmuring to himself‘ That’s too much
“You’re at that self–conscious age now hurt.”
young lady needs her dignity. How could he discipline you in front of outsiders? Well, at least you’re not
As Liam scrutinized her inch by inch, Gwyneth’s eyes grew a little red–rimmed, but she couldn’t help smiling “After all, I’m practically one of the Lopez family now–he wouldn’t dare lay a hand on me.”
Liam grabbed her hand and looked her in the eye, “Yes, you’re a member of the Lopez family. If he ever bullies you again, just come to me. I guarantee no one will dare lay a finger on you.”
Gwyneth: kept silent, her eyes stinging with unshed tears. She wondered, ‘How logic. My dad treats me like an enemy, always finding fault, never wishing me well.
r from my in–laws family, gently holding my hand, genuinely worried I might be hurt. There isn’t a worse father than Quentin in
“Yet here is an elder f this world!
Gwyneth lowered her head slightly, not wanting Liam to see her red–rimmed eyes, full of grievance. Having seen much in life, Liam understood the sorrow in her heart and chose not to mention it,
Instead, Liam turned to Harrison. “With Mr. Jenkins in the hospital, the Jenkins residence must feel so quiet and lonely. Why don’t you and Gwyneth stay here tonight and head back in the morning?”
Liam insisted, leaving Gwyneth and Harrison with little choice but to comply
That night, the maid escorted the two of them to their room, where a single large bed immediately caught their attention, making the atmosphere instantly awkward.
This wasn’t Harrison’s usual room. Instead, it was a much cozier bedrooms, with fresh potted plants lining the windowsill and a plush rug in bright cheerful colors. Everything about the space made it clear that it was meant for a female guest.
Gwyneth pursed her lips. “I–Is there only one bed?”
Harrison followed her in and closed the door behind them, shutting out the maid’s knowing smile. “I’ll take the sofa,” he said curtly.
