Chapter 107
Melanie ignored Bella, who had just bumped into her, and instead turned her fury on Gwyneth. “You stopped on purpose e just to make me crash into you. What are those legs of yours for–just decoration?”
Gwyneth was speechless. Seriously? I was moving at a snail’s pace–any slower and I’d be crawling. And Melanie still manages to blame me for it? she wondered.
Gwyneth sighed and said coolly, “Don’t forget to check out Harrison Group’s new smart glasses later.
“These smart glasses can analyze your surroundings and even handle basic calculations. Perfect for someone as blind and brainless as you.”
Gwyneth’s words had barely left her lips when the onlookers struggled to hold back their laughter. One tall man, swirling a glass of red wine, couldn’t help but burst out laughing, his shoulders shaking with mirth
Gwyneth tumed toward the sound.
He was broad–shouldered and long–legged, with a straight, chiseled nose and sharp eyes that gave him a fierce edge. Yet with his tousled dark- brown hair and a smirk playing at his lips, he exuded a roguish charm.
Speechless with rage after being openly mocked by a stranger, Melanie shot him a venomous glare.
The man finally stifled his laughter, turned, and melted into the crowd.
Gwyneth watched his retreating figure and chuckled softly. This man certainly makes himself at home in such a formal setting, she mused. His confident, carefree manner clearly marked him as someone distinguished. Without dwelling on it, she moved on
Behind her, Bella watched as Melanie was quickly defeated. With a cold sneer, she muttered, “How pathetic. I’ll have to do this myself”
Determined to take maners into her own hands, Bella stepped forward, ready to try a different approach and teach Gwyneth a lesson she wouldn’t forget
Just as Bella approached Gwyneth, Zachary, who had already followed her over, spotted the two familiar women and immediately grabbed Bella by
The arm
Zachary said to Bella, Don’t wander off. You might provoke someone you shouldn’t. Our seats are in the back,”
The moment she saw Zachary, the venom in Bella’s eyes vanished: Clinging to his arm, she pouted coquetrishly and whined “Zachary, why does Gwyneth get to keep moving forward while our seats are all the way in the back!”
Zachary frowned slightly and turned to Gwyneth. “Gwyneth, why don’t you come sit with us in the back instead?”
“You should know your place isn’t among the respectable guests. This is Harrison Group’s quarterly product launch. Every person in the industry is watching.
“Sining up front in that couture gown? If someone exposes you to Mrs, Harrison, do you really think Harrison can protect you?
He still remembered the last time he saw Harrison with his wife, the two had been unusually affectionate.
Everyone knew Harrison was an ice–cold man. Zachary couldn’t believe Harrison could ever truly fall for a woman. To Zachary, it was nothing but marriage of convenience, and Harrison’s wife must have some powerful connections behind her.
Though his wife put on a gracious front, even she had her limits. Gwyneth, that mistress, keeps overstepping her boundaries, time and again, and now she was even daring to grab the prime spot at the Harrison Group’s press conference
This is a direct humiliation to Mrs. Harrison. She won’t let this slide; Zachary thought.
HI
Zachary reached out, trying to take Gwyneth’s hand again, saying, “Owennie, I’m genuinely trying to help you out here. Having you as my plus one won’t be a problem at all–why don’t you just come with us
Gwyneth dodged his custretched hand and brushed past him, coldly tossing out. “Know your place, and stay out of my business.”
With that, she strode straight to her seat in the front row and sat down.
Seated beside her was none other than the tall man who had laughed earlier. Just as she’d guessed, he was clearly someone of importance. Gwyneth locked eyes with him, and simultaneously, they exchanged slight nods as a form of greeting.
In the distance, Zachary stared at his empty hand, his heart wrenched with pain. Gwyneth had actually called his well–intentioned concer meddling
