Chapter 114
She turned toward the voice and saw Zachary, his eyes burning with urgency as he walked toward her. “Gwennie,” he begged, “let’s go back to Galvocity together. My family keeps pushing me to get married, but you’re the only one I want.”
u can’t stand
He added, “We’ll get married, have the wedding you dream of. Il transfer your shares to you, and we can buy a a new house. And if you Bella being around, I can even send her abroad”
In the corner, a sound snapped Gwyneth back to reality. She was still trying to understand Zachary’s sudden confession.
Bella came closer, voice trembling in disbelief. “Zachary, you told me you were working late at the office, but you were actually waiting for Gwyneth And just to win her back, you’d even send me abroad?”
Bella’s voice shook as she asked Zachary, “You know I’ve been having bad asthma attacks Intely–each one could be life–threatening. And now you want to leave me alone overseas! How could 1 survive?”
Bella had just come down to take out the trash, never expecting to hear such shocking words. Zachary hadn’t expected Bella to come down at that moment. Their eyes locked in stunned silence.
Bella suddenly clutched her chest, breathing hard. Gwyneth didn’t care about Zachary being pressured into marriage, nor did she want to hear Bella fake being sick any longer.
She sneered and said. “Getting pressured to marry? Then just go ahead and marry Bella! Wishing you both happiness.”
She spun around to leave, but Zachary suddenly grabbed her wrist. “If I could her, I wouldn’t be here chasing you, right? Gwennic, it’s always you- only you”
Bella froze, completely forgetting her sick act. Zachary, realizing he had let the truth slip out, quickly looked away. Even Gwyneth was momentarily
stunned.
She thought. Now he says he must marry me? When I was with him, his family never pressured us to get married–in fact, they seemed almost reluctant, like they only saw me as someone to take care of them.
Now they say it has to be me! Have they finally realized who I really am? Too bad for them–by the time they change their minds, my love for Zachary is already gone.
Gwyneth pulled her hand away from Zachary’s grip. “Don’t you realize my heart belongs to someone else now? If you keep bothering me, I’ll tell my husband–and we’ll crush the Flynn Group
Those words hit Zachary hard, like a punch to the chest. He really wanted to grab Gwyneth and shout, Thirteen years together, and you’re just throwing it all away? Do you really have to become Harrison’s mistress?”
But the words got stuck in Zachary’s throat because he thought about Flynn Group. He thought, I’ve already lost Gwyneth. How can I lose the whole company for love, too!
Gwyneth came home happy and sat on the soft sofa when a message popped up from a number she hadn’t texted in a long time: [Hey, my orchestra will be in Joracity next month. Can you write a piece for us?
The message was followed by a cute cat sticker making adorable, pleading gestures.
Elowen was the artistic director of a famous orchestra, and a well–known composer and pianist.
Gwyneth and Elowen had worked together for a while. Neither of them acted snobby, but their talent was obvious. They got along very well and worked smoothly together.
Elowen was totally into her music, while Gwyneth chose to focus on love with Zachary. Elowen didn’t know much about Gwyneth’s love life, and they slowly drifted apart.
When Elowen heard Gwyneth was back in Joracity, she reached out. Out of respect for their friendship, Gwyneth agreed, and they planned to meet
their favorite old cafe.
On the weekend, Gwyneth got there early. The little coffee shop near her school had turned into a fancy three–story place–really popular on Instagram. The second and third floors mostly served wealthy women for afternoon tea.
To talk about work, Gwyneth booked the most private booth on the third floor. Just on time, Elowen arrived.
As a star, she was dressed very carefully–sunglasses, a mask, and a baggy hoodie. She confidently sat across from Gwyneth and smiled brightly
“Long time no see! You look more beautiful–must be love that’s making you glow, huh?” Elowen teased.
Gwyneth smiled and teased back, “Look at you, superstar! Your name’s everywhere and you’re super hard to reach. That’s really something.” She was happy to see her old friend again.
swore she’d never
Elowen chuckled. “Times sure have changed, huh? That tiny coffee shop we used to go to is now a fancy cafe. And the girl who sw leave Galvocity has finally come home to Joracity. So, how’s life treating you these days?”
“Not bad. But
you’ve been making news a lot what made you ask me to write music for you?”
Flowen smiled and said, Tye run out of ideas–can you help me find some inspiration?”
Even after many years, they picked up their conversation easily. As they talked, some socialites sat at the next table for tea. One of them looked at Elowen and sneered, “How can she dress like that? This floor is for proper ladies.
The socialites sat down. Elowen took off her sunglasses, looked at them, and said coolly, “Must be nice having so much free time to be mean to people.”
Gwyneth was about to ignore them when one socialite said, “Rella, I heard you’re really good at playing the violin. There’s one right here–won’t you give us a show?
“Sure!” Bella replied excitedly.
Gwyneth saw Bella already on stage, her fingers making the violin sing a pretty tune. The socialites watched, looking at Bella with amusement, Gwyneth felt annoyed.
They were mocking Bella, but Bella seemed happy to be the clown Gwyneth shook her head, not wanting to get involved, and went back to chatting with Gwyneth.
Suddenly, the violju music stopped. Bella put down her violin and shot Gwyneth a look. “Gwyneth, you taught me how to play the violin.” Gwyneth stayed calm even as the crowd started talking. Elowen watched with a smile, while Bella kept going.
Belja sneered, “Gwyneth, has being kept by Harrison made you forget how to play? Why don’t you get up there and show us—after all these years. let’s see who’s really better.”
Gwyneth sneered, “You Trying to be my rival? Please.”

“How am I not good enough?” Bella kept saying. While you were busy with men, I kept practicing the violin
Elowen cut in sharply, “From your playing, it’s clear you’re not really a good violinist.
“And you say you never stopped practicing? If that was true, you wouldn’t be so bad. How dare you say Gwyneth taught you?
her!”
Gwyneth almost burst into laughter. She thought, “Wow, Elowen’s tongue is even sharper than mine.
Bella finally saw Elowen. After hearing Elowen mocked by the socialites, she felt even more confident.
She lifted her chin and sneered, “Do you even know what real musicianship is!
Bella boasted, Tve actually played with the famous pianist Luna”
You’re a total shame to
As soon as she said that, a few socialites gasped, covering their mouths in surprise. People who knew Lama started whispering excitedly,
“Luna? The producer of that famous orchestra?”
“Not just a producer–she’s a top pianist too! She’s won lots of awards recently, and her tours are always sold out”
Gwyneth and Elowen burst out laughing. Bella blushed with embarrassment and snapped. “What’s so funny?”
“Luna doesn’t even know you exist. Who are you anyway? Elowen said.
Gwyneth laughed so hard tears came to her eyes. She thought, “Luna–whose real name is Elowen–is standing right here. If Bella ever worked with, Elowen, she’d know her voice
They kept laughing. Bella felt hurt–like needles poking her. She hadn’t expected to be humiliated again by Gwyneth. Luckily, she had already messaged Zachary–be would be there soon.
Bella snapped, “Oh please, that’s just jealous talk! So what if I haven’t worked with Luna! Have you!
She sneered, “Who do you think you are to criticize me? Gwyneth, it’s bad enough you’re too scared to show your skills, but now you’re with this cheap woman?”
Gwyneth’s face darkened a little. She could brush off insults about herself, but she didn’t like anyone disrespecting her friends.
Beila smirked, noticing Gwyneth’s eyes darken with anger. Bella gripped her violin tightly and thought, Zachary will be here any minute. Let him see who you really are, Gwyneth
