Chapter 160
I didn’t answer him. I was looking at Faith, who was already heading for me. She flung her arms around me, clinging tightly to me, her body shaking against mine.
“Faith,” I whispered, holding her close. Her eyes were all red and puffy, her sidin deathly pale. She had been crying for ages. My heart broke seeing her
like that.
I bent to kiss her forehead, pulled back a little to look at her. “I’m sorry,” I said, my voice thick with emotion. “Something happened.”
Her hold on me tightened as she looked up, searching my face for answers. “What do you mean?” she asked, barely above a whisper.
I sat her down, my hands shaking a little as I tried to compose myself. “Faith,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, “do you want to talk in private?
She shook her head, eyes still red from crying. “No, Dom. Everyone’s been worried. They should know too
I swallowed hard, nodded, and looked around the room. Alex leaned against the wall, his arms crossed, his face unreadable. Raina was sitting stiffly, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. Faith’s hands clutched each other tightly in her lap. My heart felt like it was going to pound out of my chest
I took a deep breath and began, “I don’t know how this happened.” I admitted. “But I woke up in bed with Eliza beside me.”
The room exploded. Faith gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. Raine shot to her fees, pointing an accusing finger at me. “What the fuck, Dom? Are you serious? Alter everything?”
But Alex said nothing. His eyes bored into mine, piercing, as I judging my every word.
I raised both hands to placate him. “Hear me out! I do not recall a single thing from last night! To swear on God’s name, by God, the thing did not transpire between me and her, I know every inch of myself. If this occurred, only I would truly know.”
Faith’s voice trembled. “You you don’t remember?” Tears pooled in her eyes, and my chest
est began to ache.
“I had only one drink,” I said, desperation creeping into my tone. “That’s all One And then nothing”
The room went silent; every pair of eyes was on me. I pulled out my phone and brought up the recording I’d made earlier. “It’s all I could get,” I whispered, my throat husky. Played the clip–the recording of Eliza’s voice threatened me, taunting me
After the recording was finished, I looked at Fairh. “I swear, Faith. I didn’t have sex with her.”
Raina crossed her arms, still tumine “How convenient is that,” she said. “A recording, but nothing to prove what really happened”
It was Alex who finally broke the silence. His voice wasn’t raised, but it was commanding “It had to be Eliza who doped him,” he stated. “She’s done worse. She probably tried to.. Influence him into… whatever. And when it didn’t work, stripped him down just to make it look like it did.”
Faith began to sob all the louder and wiped at her eyes with trembling hands. “How can you be sure?” she whispered, her voice breaking “How can you know that nothing happened?”
Alex’s gaze flicked to hers then. “Because it’s happened to me before,” he said simply. His voice was steady, but there was a flicker of pain in his eyes that made everyone pause.
Faith’s head jerked up, her tears momentarily forgotten. “What?”
Alex nodded, his jaw tightening. “Eliza tried the same shit with me years ago. Drugged me, tried to make it look like something happened when it didn’t Dominic’s telling the truth, Faith. I’d bet my life on it.”
