throat.
“I already explained, on the day of the parent–child event, I
called you but your phone was off, you were late, and she just
happened to be with me.”
“Enough.” Bethany cut Terrence off. “You could let her go for
being late, but when others mistook her for Mrs. McConnell,
mistook her for Emery’s mom, you could’ve explained. Why
didn’t you ever explain?”

Terrence wanted to explain, but his explanation sounded pretty
weak, since he really didn’t clear things up at the time.
He still forced himself to explain, “In that situation, it was hard
to clear things up. You know Emery really looked forward to
the family event, and I always kept myself clean, never had any
scandals. I thought you’d understand.”
Bethany almost laughed out of anger. She didn’t even want
go to the family event back then. It was because Emery was

brought up Mrs. McConnell’s title. If I took him out and people
said he was Emery’s dad, I wouldn’t deny it. Can I also tell you

Terrence’s mouth twitched, but he couldn’t say anything for a
long time.
She kept quiet at first, but once she started talking, she just
wouldn’t let things go. He never had any trouble
communicating, but she totally shut him down.
