Bethany looked up and met Terrence’s cold stare.
“Did you ever exist?” she replied coldly to him, “Even if we
weren’t getting divorced before, how strong was your presence?
How could you even ask me that?”
Bethany held Shyla’s hand and walked toward the exit ahead.
Terrence followed along outside the fence and waited outside
the exit.
Shyla looked up at Bethany and said, “Bethany, were you
arguing with Uncle Terrence?”
“Yeah.”
“Then Shyla helped you.”
Terrence heard what Shyla said and just felt a pain in his chest.
People from the Duarte family, from Jameson to Shyla, all
poked him in the chest.
Bethany and Terrence hadn’t gotten their divorce papers yet, so
Julio didn’t feel comfortable saying anything. He just followed

behind Bethany, thinking he’d protect her if he needed to.
Bethany and Shyla came out from the exit.
“Uncle Terrence.”
Shyla still called him uncle, but the next second, Shyla said, “I
think I’d rather have Uncle Julio be my godfather, or my uncle
could be my godfather too. Think about it and give up the spot
soon, so I can have a godfather, okay?”
“I am really pitiful, I didn’t have parents, and it was hard enough
for me to finally get a godmother. I really wanted a godfather.
Uncle Terrence, I heard from uncle that you started an orphan
fund, just to help orphans. I was an orphan too. Could you help
me out?”
Julio was in the back and almost couldn’t help laughing.
Shyla used the most innocent words to say the most sarcastic
things.
Terrence’s face went pale and then white, “You want a
godfather, I’m it. You can just start calling me godfather now. I
promise I’ll treat you even better than your real dad.”
Shyla looked Terrence up and down, “Since I really wanted a
godfather, I could maybe consider you, but the thing is Bethany

doesn’t want you, so it’s tough for me. I can’t just take your side
because you’re my uncle’s friend, that wouldn’t be fair to
Bethany. I’d better not have you as my godfather. It’s fine if
you’re just Uncle Terrence to me.”
Terrence got shut down by a little kid for the first time.
And there was also a love rival there.
It was so embarrassing.
Sure enough, it was all the Duarte family, not a single one of
them said anything nice, it made his chest feel tight and really
hurt.
It was around this time that Terrence suddenly remembered
how Bethany felt when he and Krista went to Emery’s parent-
child event.
His handsome, narrow eyes landed on Bethany’s face, but she
barely showed any expression and totally treated him like he
wasn’t even there!
At that moment, he knew he had no right to be angry.
“Beth, about the parent–child activity, I’m really sorry. Krista
and I really weren’t like what you thought. What happened
before, I promise it won’t ever happen again.”

Terrence explained eagerly, “About your dad, I could stay out of
- it. If you want to find Darren, just tell me the reason and I can do
it for you, okay?”
Julio asked Bethany a bit excitedly, “Have you heard from your
dad?”
“Yeah.””
“Who was Darren?”
Julio didn’t know there was someone like that around Bethany.
“I’ll get back to you.”
Terrence got more and more annoyed. She talked to Kyson,
talked to Julio, but just wouldn’t talk to her.
“Julio, we were talking as a couple, why did you butt in!”
