After the checkup, I really was. I was pregnant with Ruben’s baby.
My whole body went cold, and I could not stop shaking.
“Mom, don’t worry. I’ll take her back to rest.” Ruben’s voice was cold.

As soon as we got back home, I was forced to swallow a pill.
A sharp pain hit me right away. Cold sweat covered my forehead.
Turns out Ruben had given me the strongest abortion pill–he would not even let me have a proper procedure. He wanted me to feel every second of the pain.

Half–conscious, I heard Ruben’s panicked voice. “What’s happening? Where’s the hemostatic pump? Give it to her now!”
Was he actually scared to lose me?
Of course not. The only one he did not want to lose was Veronica. After they confirmed I had lost the baby, Ruben left with everyone, but not long after, I heard shouting outside.
Veronica stormed in with her people and yanked me off the bed.
After I fell to the freezing floor, she kicked me hard in the stomach with her sharp heels.

was so sharp that I curled up on the floor.
Veronica grabbed my hair and dragged me across the ground. Cold sweat immediately soaked my clothes.
“You are just an illegitimate daughter and you think you can have a baby to marry into the Errard family?” She forced my head up and slapped me across the face.
I could not tell if the wetness on my face was sweat or tears. I kept whispering, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”
“Liar! Are you still pretending? Ruben waited for me for three years! There’s no way I’d let you carry the Errard family’s child!”
“You must’ve tricked him!
“He only slept with you to get back at me for getting married. Did you really think you could be Mrs. Errard?”
Veronica let go of my hair and called to her bodyguards in a cold voice.
“Today, I’ll make sure she never dreams of marrying rich again. Cripple her! Make sure she can never get pregnant for the rest of her life!”
The bodyguards were huge. They beat me so badly I coughed up blood. In the end, I did not even know when I passed out.
When I opened my eyes again, the room was silent. I touched the purple bruises on my stomach and laughed until tears fell.
This is fine. My heart is dead anyway. Just three more days and I will be gone.
Yet, news of Veronica beating me up still reached Ruben’s ears.
