Chapter 5
Lina held her cheek in shock, tears rolling down. “If I hadn’t stepped in, would you have let her drain you completely? Hugo, Amy has gone completely mad. As a vampire prince, it’s your duty to manage low- level vampires appropriately. You can’t throw out clan rules just because you’re playing favorites!”
Hugo looked at me with a mix of despair and pain, yet he clenched his jaw. “A vampire who has just been Embraced naturally has difficulty controlling their bloodlust. I can’t accept that Amy was turned by low- level vampires, much less that she’d fall to such a low level.
“Amy must have been transformed into a high–ranking vampire by a noble. In seven days, when the next blood moon appears, her powers and awareness will come to life. Until then, she must remain unharmed!”
With those words, Hugo lifted me into his arms and carried me toward his master bedroom.
Behind him, Lina’s voice rang out, filled with jealousy and indignation. “Hugo, you’ll have to face the truth in a week! Amy won’t gain any awareness or abilities. She’s nothing but a bloodthirsty monster, worthless!”
Her words were met only by the loud bang of Hugo’s door slamming shut.
After he carried me to the room, he used his powers to hypnotize me. “Amy, sleep well.”

Hugo’s large hand gently rested on my head, his voice thick with emotion. “In seven days, you’ll wake up and remember everything between us, right?”

As I drifted into a drowsy sleep, affected by his powers, I could still distinctly feel him nourishing me with his pure blood daily.
Even though he knew it was hopeless, Hugo kept whispering to me, “Amy, do you remember the first time we met? You were at that tavern, and the instant I entered, your unique scent captivated me.
“Amidst the heavy aroma of alcohol and strong perfume, your distinct body fragrance was irresistibly alluring.”
“After I first laid eyes on you, I found myself drawn to that tavern repeatedly, hoping for just a quick look at you. I was curious why you tirelessly worked several jobs, regardless of the weather.
“Then you confided in me that you were once a child left to fend for yourself. You said if you didn’t keep pushing yourself, you wouldn’t survive. Hearing this, my heart experienced a deep, familiar ache I hadn’t felt in a long time.”
When Hugo spoke, memories flooded my mind like a slideshow.
My parents had left me at birth, and I was brought up in an orphanage.
At 18, the woman I considered a mother, the orphanage director, kicked me out.
My life felt like a solitary boat drifting aimlessly on an endless ocean.
Before meeting Hugo, who welcomed me to his castle with the words, “Amy, you have a home now.”
I never felt a sense of belonging. Despite the castle being a dreaded

place among humans, it was the first place where I felt a sense of belonging and at home.
For a time, I genuinely believed it was my home.
The castle, which Hugo and I called home, was often gloomy.
I would ignite the fireplace and fill each shadowy corner with bright flowers, infusing the fortress with warmth and life.
However, everything changed abruptly when Lina appeared.
At some point, Hugo’s affections shifted entirely to her.
He once called me the hostess of the castle. However, Lina’s parents, famous vampire hunters, had vanquished several of his faithful followers.
Hugo dragged Lina to the castle and tossed her at my feet,
commanding, “You will train her to be the lowest servant from now
on.”
I didn’t realize Hugo had been secretly watching me, keeping track of every time I gave Lina some menial task–until he took away the golden key that symbolized my status.
My mind drifted endlessly in the darkness.
I couldn’t understand why he had withdrawn his love for me in favor of Lina, yet now he was urgently pleading for my true self to come back and reclaim my body and mind.
As my awareness wavered, I was abruptly awakened by the heavy, sweet smell of blood.
Inhaling deeply, I realized this scent was not from Hugo. But from a

human.
In an instant, my eyes flew open, and my bloodshot irises were the first thing I noticed.
Standing a short distance away was Lina, holding her injured arm and mocking me. “What? Did your thirst wake you?
“Amy, I’ve brought a mirror. Take a look at yourself. You’re no better than a rabid dog or a wild animal now.”
I paid no attention to Lina’s taunts, my throat moving restlessly.
The only thing I could feel was an intense, insatiable thirst.
Despite my weakened state, I managed to roll toward Lina before tumbling off the bed with a thud.
Lina grinned victoriously at me as I stood there in a pathetic state.
“You crave my blood, don’t you? Crawl over like a dog, and maybe I’ll be generous enough to let you have a taste.”
Drained of strength, I lowered my head and began to crawl toward her.
Yet, she retreated gradually, always staying just beyond my grasp.
“That’s a good dog,” she teased, “come a bit closer.”
Eventually, Lina backed into the red wall, nowhere left to run.
As I moved closer, drawn by the scent of blood on her arm, she unexpectedly flashed a victorious smile and screamed loudly.
When Hugo rushed in through the door, he found Lina’s face wet with tears.
