Chapter 6
Seeing my unyielding stance, he waved his hand coldly.
“Don’t show mercy,” he ordered the sentinel, “Execute pack punishment.”
Each lash of the whip was followed by a question, the sentinel’s voice sharp yet emotionless.
“Beta, do you admit your mistake?”
Strike after strike, the punishment continued relentlessly. By the thirtieth lash, my clothes were soaked in blood, yet I hadn’t uttered a single sound. On the thirty–third strike, my body gave out I collapsed, unconscious.
That night, I was consumed by a raging fever

that refused to subside. It wasn’t until three days later that I woke to the sound of my phone ringing. Marcus.
“I’m three hours away from you” he said, his voice steady.
Exhausted but resolute, I forced myself to rise, beginning to pack. In the end, I only took my passport.
Just then, the phone on the pack office desk rang. It was Leona, one of my former assistants.
“Beta Nadia, her young voice trembled with panic, “When are you coming back? Alpha Roland has had Brianna take over your duties these past few days, and she’s already messed up several deals!”
Her words spilled out in a rush, her anxiety

palpable.
“Even the Selundra Pack, who’ve partnered with us for years, have severed their contract! But Alpha Roland… it’s like he’s possessed or something–he hasn’t reprimanded her at all. In fact, when anyone tries to bring it up, he loses his temper!”
Listening to her frantic complaints, I suddenly recalled a time years ago when I had first stepped into the role of Roland’s Beta and made an error with an important deal. He had been so furious he didn’t speak to me for an entire week.
Those days, that feeling–it all now seemed like a lifetime ago. There was no nostalgia in my heart, no lingering curiosity tethering me to those memories.
Calmly, I replied, “Leona, I am no longer

affiliated with the Rhoskar Pack. You don’t need to report anything to me.”
The moment I hung up, calls from the pack elders began flooding my phone.
“Nadia, as Alpha Roland’s Beta, it’s your duty to correct him when he’s wrong! What have you even been doing lately? Absent from pack meetings, handing over pack matters to Brianna who doesn’t know the first thing about running them? What kind of Beta are you?”
Their voices, as always, were dripping with anger. These elders were nothing if not predictable–timid and compliant before the Alpha, but quick to unleash fury upon me whenever something went awry. I had long been their scapegoat.
Once, I loved Roland. I was willing to bear

every bit of blame for him, taking their anger without a single protest.
But not anymore.
“Frustrated with Alpha Roland? Then why don’t you muster the courage to confront him directly? You pathetic cowards!” I snapped, my voice sharp, unapologetic.
Without waiting for a response, I hung up on them, my hand steady as the call disconnected.
The truth was, for years, I had been the glue holding everything together for Roland, silently cleaning up every mess.
When the elders grew dissatisfied, I stood at the forefront, absorbing their ire.
When the pack lost deals, I reached out to

old allies and brokered peace.
And yet, not once had I told Roland. I didn’t want him to feel guilty–or maybe I was just too attached, too blinded to confront the reality of it all.
But now? Now I had let go. Completely.
Reclaiming what was mine, I reached into my bag and pulled out the abortion record, locking it in the study’s safe.
Within it rested everything I’d gathered to sever our bond: the official mate separation agreement, my resignation letter, the
abortion record, and the ashes of ninety–nine love letters.
And one final item–a surveillance recording of the villa. I had saved the clip of Brianna medicating herself and the audio from three

days ago on a flash drive. “Let’s hope he enjoys these gifts,” I thought bitterly.
Downstairs, a car honked insistently, urging
- me.
Simultaneously, my phone buzzed, delivering Roland’s frantic messages one after another.
[Nadia, Brianna has messed up several deals. I need you to fix them. I know you’ve had problems with her and me, but I promise to explain everything when we’re home tonight.]
When I didn’t reply, his tone shifted from pleading to demanding.
[Dammit, Nadia! We’re adults, so stop being petty, alright? Keep acting like this and your bonus will be halved next month. You’ll apologize in front of the elders at the pack

meeting.]
I chuckled coldly at his weak threats, unmoved by the desperation woven in his words.
Without letting him say one more thing, I blocked every method of contact he had- his calls, messages, everything. Clearing his texts from my phone, I erased any trace of him from my life.
Cleanly, resolutely, with no hesitation, I wiped out all evidence of my existence in the villa.

Outside, a sleek Maybach waited–rare, limited–edition, its engine purring softly.
Standing beside it was a man dressed impeccably in a tailored suit. Marcus.
He held a bouquet of artificial white tulips in

his hands, perfect flowers that would never wilt. The sunlight played across the edges of his figure, illuminating him like a painting.
Our eyes met.
“Nadia, he murmured softly, his voice like a warm breeze against my cold determination, “I’m here to take you home.”
