Chapter 11
Marcus is the powerful Alpha of the Drakemere Pack – within the southern Pack Alliance, his words hold the weight of commands, almost like decrees from the gods. Even my father sometimes lets out a relieved sigh, muttering, “Thank the Moon Goddess he’s not our enemy.”
However, this Alpha, feared and revered by all, asked me if I would give him up.
“Marcus, Roland and I are finished. The day I left him, that was the end of it–no turning back,” I told him firmly. “I’ve already told you this before. Why won’t you believe me?”
I’m not one to explain myself, let alone repeat myself, but on this matter, I’ve already told Marcus countless times.

He slowly released me, but his intense gaze remained fixed on my eyes. “Because seven years ago,” he said softly, “you chose him over me.”
“You never-” His voice trembled. “You never really cared about me. Back then, I was just your backup option.”
His words hit me like a stone thrown straight at my heart. I fell into a long silence, unsure of how to respond.
After what felt like an eternity, I finally spoke, searching his eyes for understanding before I began to explain.
“Marcus, it wasn’t that I didn’t care about you. I just hated the feeling of being controlled–hated that my life was already planned out for me.

“We grew up together. Everyone–your Pack, my Pack–expected us to eventually become mates. It felt like I had an invisible label
stamped on me: yours.
“I’ve always been the obedient daughter, never defying my parents. But a mate bond -that’s a huge thing. I didn’t want to be told who I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with. And I knew… if I stayed here, I would end up marrying you.
“You thought I didn’t love you, but that’s not it. What I couldn’t bear was that my life seemed to have already been scripted.
“Then you followed me to the Northern Pack Alliance. That made everything worse. I felt like a bird in a cage–a pampered canary with no voice. So, I began to resent you.

“Then Roland entered my life. He had something you didn’t–freedom, no strings. attached. The very freedom I craved. That’s why I fell for him, and used him to push you away.”
“It wasn’t that I didn’t care about you, understand? I just didn’t want a life that was already decided for me.”
Now I see it clearly–Marcus’s fear and insecurity.
After all, during the three years I was with Roland, I felt the same–uncertainty, doubt. But Roland never gave me the words I’m giving Marcus now.
Maybe because I know how painful that is, I don’t want Marcus to go through that.
Marcus stared at me for a long time. He

never expected me to open up like this.
He always thought I didn’t care for him. Now, he finally understood–he had put too much pressure on me, moved too fast.
“Nadia… I–I’m sorry,” he shook his head, regret lacing his words. “I didn’t understand back then. I-”
“You don’t need to apologize, I interrupted him gently. “I should have been clearer, too. But now, can you tell me what happened?”
“Two things,” Marcus replied. “First–Roland sent someone to find you. He had already tracked you here, but I intercepted the trail.”
“Second-” He paused, his voice more cautious now. “There’s a rumor that Brianna is pregnant… with his pup.”

He watched my face closely as he spoke, looking for any sign of emotion.
But throughout, my expression remained unchanged.
“So, you’re worried I’ll go back to him?” I asked.
“Please,” I let out a bitter laugh. “That bastard already has his mistress pregnant. Do you really think I’d willingly become someone else’s pup’s stepmother? How little do you think of me?”
Marcus shot back, “You did worse for him back then.”
His words left me speechless for a moment.
After a pause, I cupped his face in my hand. “Listen to me, baby,” I said firmly. “No matter

what happens, Roland and I are done. There is no future for us.”
I gave his face a soft pat, almost as if trying to wake him up. “Our bonding ceremony? It will go ahead as planned, alright?”
“As for Roland…” I sighed, my lips trembling slightly, my shoulders sinking as I made a decision. “Stop him for me. I don’t want him to know where I am not yet.”
With my assurance, Marcus’s expression shifted noticeably. He even smiled.
“Alright.”

“I’m still carrying your pup, Roland,” Brianna said, her anger barely hidden behind her hand as she spoke. “Next time, don’t smoke around me.”
