After leaving the classroom, I headed to the library as usual, planning to borrow a few books to read back in my dorm.
At the corner of the library’s first floor, I spotted Harper and Carter in the distance, secretly discussing something. Both of their faces looked unnatural.
Out of curiosity, I quietly approached, wanting to hear what they were talking about.
Carter gripped Harper’s hand excitedly and asked, “Didn’t you say the pregnancy and illness would transfer to Charlotte? How did it turn out like this?”
Tears kept streaming down Harper’s face: “I don’t know why this happened either! The bracelet is clearly on her wrist. By all logic, she should be the one who’s pregnant.
“Back then, when I put the bracelet on her at the hospital, I vaguely sensed that the system’s connection with my mom wasn’t completely severed. As long as I get pregnant, the child will randomly transfer to one of them.
“But my mom is already dead. By all logic, the child should have transferred to Charlotte’s belly. So why is the baby still inside me?”

Carter sighed and said, “Should we just abandon that plan? You can have the baby, and I’ll raise it.”
“No way!” Harper firmly refused.
She said, “As long as I date 100 boyfriends, the system will reward me with a million dollars. I must get that million!
“Besides, I promised you. As long as you help me meet boyfriends, I’ll give you $200,000.”
Hearing this, I finally understood why Harper wanted to date 100 boyfriends–because the system promised her a million dollars.
Carter was helping her do terrible things for money too. Harper had even indirectly caused her mother’s death for this plan.
After a long silence, Harper said softly, “I have to continue with this plan. I’ll get an abortion first, then keep going.
“Getting the abortion and recovering will take some time. During that period, you don’t need to introduce me to any boyfriends.”
Carter hesitated and said, “But you’re already sick. The doctor said you need proper rest and advised against any more sexual activity. I’m worried about your health.

“What’s more, your disease is contagious. If you keep doing this, you’re harming others. You should stop.”
Harper slapped Carter directly: “So you’re disgusted with me now? You weren’t like this when we were discussing splitting the money. Let me tell you, it’s too late for regrets now!”
Carter wanted to say something more, but Harper had already turned and walked away.
I laughed bitterly at myself. Carter actually cared about Harper’s health and even worried about her infecting others.
But in my previous life, when I suffered from various
gynecological diseases and frequent pregnancies followed by miscarriages, he clearly knew the cause yet didn’t care about me at all.
Carter truly was my “good friend.”
I didn’t go to the library to borrow books anymore. After hearing their conversation, I had many things to do. I no longer had time to read.
