He was in a hospital bed, eyes closed, with a
bandage on his head. I couldn’t see where he
was injured because of the blanket.
I grabbed the female cop’s hand. “How is Ji
Fan? He’s hurt, how bad is it?”

The cop said, “He had multiple injuries from a
fall. He had surgery, and he’s stable for now.”
I followed them and we drove all the way to
the hospital.
Ji Fan was in the ICU. I couldn’t touch him, I
could only watch through the glass.
He was asleep, and I was terrified that he
wouldn’t wake up.
I insisted on waiting at the hospital.
That night, they had to do three emergency
procedures on him.
My heart was in my throat, and after two

I lifted my shirt, showing her the scars on my

“Lisa won’t get the death penalty either, she’ll
live through her prison sentence.”
I pressed the buzzer, calling the nurses. “You
all should go. I don’t want to see you. You
don’t have to wait for the nurse to kick you
out.”
My mom pounded her chest and walked out.
Chad came back. “I’m sorry, Sarah. I didn’t
know Lisa would do all of this… I’m going to
tell her what I think of it. I won’t let my
woman be so evil… Sarah, can we start
over?”
I grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. “Go to
hell! Do you think there are only two women
in the world, me and Lisa? Get away from me.
I told you I don’t love you anymore!”
Chad ran away.
I got up and walked to Ji Fan’s room.

He was still asleep.
A cop told me that there wasn’t a high
chance that he’d wake up.
I was calm. “It’s okay. I’ll take care of him.”
I talked with the police for a bit, and I found
out that Ji Fan’s real name was Chen Mo.
He was not working undercover for the police.
He was an informant who gave the police a
lot of valuable information.
