Claire bit her lip, glancing at her phone, “I
called you so many times, but you didn’t answer.”
“I was worried.”
“Claire.” Liam walked over to the couch, sat
down, and looked straight at her.
His eyes were completely cold.

She looked up.
“Amelia was raised by me, and she’s been with me all these years.”
“Her temper is my fault, and I told you about it when you decided to be with me.”
“I owe you a life, and I’ll do anything to repay that debt.”
“But I won’t let anything happen to Amelia.”

Claire’s eyes instantly filled with tears. She
looked at Liam, feeling wronged.
“Liam, you think I was trying to hurt Ms. Amelia, don’t you?”
Liam didn’t say anything.
He just said, “For Amelia’s safety, there are
security cameras all over the mansion.”
Claire froze. It took a long time for it to register.
She had thought that Liam was on her side that day, that he believed her. Turns out, he’d seen right through her little tricks.
After Liam went upstairs, he didn’t go to his
room.
Instead, he went to my old room.
<
After Claire had moved in, everything in my
room had changed.
The dolls I’d treasured had been packed up,
and all the cute decorations were replaced with
simple wall hangings.
“Mrs. Chen,” Liam called out.
The housekeeper arrived, and saw Liam sitting
at the desk. “Sir, what’s wrong?”
He was about to speak, but he spotted the
calendar tucked into a gap in the desk.
He bent down and picked it up.
He paused when he saw that the date, the 28th,
was circled with a black pen.
Mrs. Chen noticed it, too. “Isn’t that the day of
your birthday, sir?”
<
“I knew it! There was no way Miss Amelia was
actually mad at you!”
When he heard that, a smile played at the
corners of Liam’s lips. His finger rubbed
against the calendar.
After a moment of silence, he put the calendar
back down.
With a slightly happy tone, he said:
“Remodel the downstairs guest room using the
current layout.”
“Have Claire stay on the first floor.”
“Fix this room up and make it look just like it
did when Amelia was here.”
“I’ll go pick her up in a few days.”
Mrs. Chen smiled in agreement.
Claire, who had just reached the door, went
pale.

There were five days left before my departure.
I had basically completed all of my handoffs,
but I never thought that Claire would actually
come all the way to the hospital just to see me.
It had only been a few days, but she looked
even more like a beautiful broken doll.
“Did you need something?” I asked, putting my
patient files away.
Claire sat in her wheelchair, her disgust plain on
her face.
No more pretending.
<
“Are you going to be a home–wrecker? Is this how your family raised you?”
My hand paused as I was grabbing my pen. I looked up at the woman, a smirk playing on my lips.
“Ms. Claire, you better keep your mouth clean.”
“Me? Keep my mouth clean? Only if you kept your hands off of him!”
“Amelia, don’t you think I know that you like Liam? It’s common knowledge. You moving out of the house is just a ploy to get his attention. Let me tell you, Liam doesn’t like you.”
“He’ll never like you. He would never like his nieee!”
Claire became more and more agitated.

time alone with Claire. I knew she was bad
news. She was like me, willing to do anything for love. All the schemes, all the tricks, were all things I had done to death in my previous life.
But I’d forgotten what it was like.
It’s only when you feel like you’re losing something that you’ll desperately try to hold on
to it.
Last time, she just needed a few cutting words,
even if I fought with her until I was covered in
bruises, Liam wouldn’t budge.
But this time, I did nothing.
And Liam wanted me back.
These past few days, Liam had been texting me
every now and then, saying my room was still
mine.
<
Exactly as I had left it.
Like always, he had afternoon tea sent to my
place, no matter what.
So, did Liam love me?
No.
I knew there were security cameras in the
mansion.
Knowing Liam, he wouldn’t let things slide, but
he hadn’t done anything about it.
Which means that he was okay with Claire
bullying me.
His recent change of heart was just because he
didn’t like me being gone. That’s it.
After a long silence,
