Chapter 123
The rain poured down as if it wanted to drown the entire city.
There were fewer and fewer buses arriving at the station. Fifteen minutes went by, and even after half an hour, there was not a single bus. Every time a bus came, everyone would swarm around it, afraid of being left behind.
Moira stood alone at the edge of the platform, her phone in hand, quietly watching the cars speed past in the rain.
“It’s raining so heavily now. How am I supposed to go back alone?” someone asked
When Moira heard this voice, she turned around and saw a lady in work clothes talking on her phone. She held a wet umbrella in her other hand, and her pants were drenched up to the knees.
“Do you think I didn’t think of taking a taxi back? More than 50 people are waiting for one I’ll be eleven or twelve by the time I manage to get ans
“It’s not like you don’t have a car. Shouldn’t you pick up your girlfriend on such a stormy day?
“Do you think you’re the only one who’s tired? I’ve been standing at the counter for the entire day. My legs are so sore. My colleagues‘ boyfriends and husbands drove over to pick them up.
“I was the only one who couldn’t get a taxi and ran to the bus stop to wait for the bus. But twenty minutes have passed, and I haven’t seen bus 208.
“Will you be stuck in a traffic jam for as long as I have to wait for a taxi? You know what? You’re just lazy and don’t want to pick me up. If you don’t come now, don’t bother coming again. Let’s break up!”
After the lady hung up the phone, the wiped her eyes with her hand, but more and more tears f flowed. She couldn’t wipe them all.
Moira quickly found a packet of tissues from her bag and handed it over.
The lady looked up and saw her. She choked out a “thank you” and took the tissue.
After drying her face, she composed herself and asked hoarsely, “Are you waiting for the bus, too?”
Moira arrived at the bus stop before it rained. Her entire body was dry compared to the people around her, who were mostly wel
The lady noticed this too. “How long have you been waiting?”
“It’s been almost an hour, Moira replied.
The lady explained, “thually, the bus takes 15 minutes to get here. Today’s thunderstorm has caused the delay. Not one has arrived in more than an hour. It’s ridiculous. Did something happen to stop the bus services? Which bus are you waiting for? I’ll check for you!”
She took out her phone, opened an app, and waited for Moira to speak
“Actually, I’m also waiting for my boyfriend,” Moira said.
The lady was stunned. “Your boyfriend hasn’t come either!”
soon as she said that, the realized she shouldn’t have said that and quickly changed the subject. “It’s raining so heavily today. Perhaps your boyfriend is still stuck in traffic.”
Moira was lent for a moment. “Actually, I don’t know if mine will come to pick me up
If he had come, he would have called or texted her finu. Moira lowered her head again at this thought and pressed her phone screen. There was no message. Perhaps he hadn’t seen the message she had sent or had already seen it and didn’t want to come,
At the thought of the latter possibility, Moira felt she had done something stupid today. She shouldn’t have disturbed her boyfriend.
The lady realized her boyfriend was not the only one who refused to come. There was someone as unlucky as her.
She comforted Moira “Maybe your boyfriend is busy with work today and is tired. He probably doesn’t want to drive in the weather”
Moira nodded. She knew that Virgil was very lony with work. He often went on lainess trips and went to work earlier than her. Hence, the regretted sending that message even ino
